MIKE’S BIRTHDAY – 18  Saturday, December 1, 1990: Woke at 8:40, felt so good to sleep in once. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, opened Sam’s door. Sunny this morning but clouded up & had a storm w/snow about 5:P.M. Had juice & choc. Shake, started working in family room. Pulled out fireplace & hung pictures, put new clock works in clock pictures. Seems to be running O.K. & keeping good time, cleaned behind fireplace & TV. Have about ½ of room done now, still can’t get one speaker on stereo to work. Had lunch, worked on fam. room some more. Tried to call Linda, not home. Also Carla & Paula, not home either but they called me later. Judy called, Cindy ^{(brought in mail)} came over. Got ready to go over to Nancy’s, got supper. Just ready to leave when Judy called again, walked over & was kind of slick. Visited a while, watched VCR when I got home. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:35.

Sunday, December 2, 1990: Sam woke me at 7:10, ^{(turned up heat)} sure mad at him. Read till 8:00, got up & fed Sam.Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Opened Sam’s door, snowed a little more during night. Finished getting ready, left early as it looked slick. Sang in choir, Communion today. Went down for coffee hour, Nancy & Cindy didn’t go today – Cindy sick. Got home about 1:00, changed clothes. Laid down to rest, Carla didn’t come over so I slept till about 3:30. Sure felt good. When I got up, read old papers; sorted & threw away papers on work table. Watched VCR from 6 to 7, got supper & ate. Did dishes. watched TV & read some more. After news watched VCR again. To bed at 1:45.

Earthquake? Monday, December 3, 1990: Woke about 6:00, back to sleep till 7:40. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Had breakfast, opened Sam’s door. Called Linda but no answer, found out she had to work. No answer at Nancys either but Cindy didn’t go to school, she’s better this eve. Got lights & some decor. up from basement, folded sweaters & hung up blouses (Xmas gifts). Wrapped gift for tonight, got cookies ready. Had lunch, Helen came & left Linda’s order. I worked on pile of stuff on kitchen counter, then on pile on kitchen table. Tested lights, went out at 4:00 & put up lights on front porch. Have to check them tomorrow as one string doesn’t light, swept porch. Washed & changed clothes, took out garbage & took cans to front. Got in mail & paper, shut Sam’s door. Got supper & ate, finished getting ready. Went w/Linda to party, real nice Got home about 11:00, watched VCR & napped. To bed at 12:45.

Tuesday, December 4, 1990: Woke at 2:35, 6:10 & at 7:30. Got up at 8:00 & turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, had juice & Shake. Opened Sam’s door, went out & worked on lights. Finally got them fixed, guess it was a bad bulb kept shorting out. Put tiny lights on little Alb. spruce tree, later on put bells on S. side of iron work & hung wreath. About froze my hands, came in & did Bible lesson. Had lunch, water & fertilized flowers. Also violets, didn’t quite get them done. Got sleepy so took nap, looked at old mail. Judy called in A.M., wrote letter to Matt in afternoon. Took it out to box, brought in mail & paper & garb. can to back. Made crab salad dressing, fixed supper & ate. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Read paper & watched TV. Watched VCR, then the News. Back in & watched VCR again, then brushed teeth. To bed at 12:40.

Wednesday, December 5, 1990: Woke at 6:00, turned down heat. Forgot it last night, went back to sleep till 7:50. Got up & fed Sam, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, let Sam out a while. Finished getting ready, shut Sam’s door. Left for Bible Study. Afterwards went downtown, got money at bank. To P.W. Drug for med., etc; to M&W for a few things. Went back to church for Guild dinner, Frieda invited me. Had turkey & all the trimmings, very good.Blanche was there, Henrietta F., Clara Leusman, Frieda M., Mamie ?, Mrs. Harms, ____, ____. Also Rev. Quail & Cindy. Left there about 3:30, got groc. Got home about 5:00, unloaded & put away groc. Got supper & ate, went to choir practice. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes when I got home. Brought in mail & paper, 1st greetings came today. Watched TV, read paper. Watched VCR, Days of Our Lives. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:45.

Thursday, December 6, 1990: Woke at 6:50, turned up heat. Couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR, fed Sam. Dressed, had O.J. & choc. Shake. Opened Sam’s door, called Linda but no answer. Washed load of colored clothes, started addressing cards. Mailed a few, had veggies for lunch. Paid Mercy M.C. bill, also for medicines. Soaked my feet while I worked, quit at 2:30 & changed my clothes. Left at 3:00, went w/Nancy to pick up Cindy – then to Boise for Cindy’s cello lesson. She dropped me off at Bests & I got suitcase set for Linda (for Megan), lamps for Linda & Carla for me. Just have to get gifts for Nancy (house), Bill & Jim now, guess I’m doing pretty good. Got home about 5:20, looked at mail. Got supper, did dishes. Watched TV, read paper. Went in & watched VCR, brushed teeth. Judy called tonight. To bed at 12:45.

MATT’S B’DAY – 19  Friday, December 7, 1990: Woke about 5:50, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, opened Sam’s door. Had breakfast, called Linda but no answer. Finished drying clothes, put away. Vacuumed carpet a little in fam. room, put card table in there to do cards. Washed & put up hair, had lunch. Mailed letters & put catfood out, went in & worked on cards while I watched TV. Put meat on to cook about 3:00, fixed vegs. for stew. Called Linda about 4:00, tried to call Nancy about stew but no answer. Got in mail & paper, finished up supper & ate. Went in & watched VCR, worked on cards. Did dishes, read paper. Went back in & worked on cards, watched VCR. Just about thru’ addr. cards – now for the letters. Brushed teeth. To bed at 1:55. Took little nap in P.M.

Saturday, December 8, 1990: Woke about 6:00, turned up heat & went back to bed. Slept till 8:40, got up & fed Sam. Opened Sam’s door, had O.J. & Shake. Folded & put away rest of clothes, took shower & dressed. Hung up clothes, Nancy & Cindy came over so I gave them the stew. Had Nancy exchange Mike’s shirt for me, worked on greetings again – almost all addressed. Vacuumed kitchen, then bath, hall & living room, also dining room. Got in mail, got supper & ate. Did dishes, watched TV. Looked at mail, read paper. Watched “Wheel of Fortune” & worked Globe X-word. To bed at 12:25. Brushed teeth.

Sunday, December 9, 1990: Woke about 6:30, turned up heat a little, back to sleep. Telephone woke me at 7:45. Linda called & wanted plunger – they were having toilet drain problems. I washed & dressed, fed Sam & opened his door. Had breakfast, finished getting ready. Youth had coffee hr. today, stopped at Alb. on my way home. Changed clothes, watched painting. Laid down & napped a little, Carla came about 2:30. We visited, then I got supper. Ate about 5:30, she left about 6:20. I cleared up & did dishes, ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Got up a few more decorations. Watched VCR. To bed at 1:45.

Matt comes home. arr. about 10:00? Monday, December 10, 1990: Up about 6:00, back to bed & slept till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam & dressed. Opened his door, had breakfast. Called Linda but no answer, started to water violets. Also other flowers, got out more Xmas decor. Put up garland over door, also on light pole. Decor. in living rm., also dining R. Worked on cards a while, got a lot of them ready & mailed them. Had lunch, went in & wrote letters. Worked on flowers but didn’t get done, ^{^took nap} called Linda about going to Boise, talked to Nancy later. Got in mail & paper, looked at mail. Got supper & ate, then got ready to go to Boise. Left here about 9:15, plane got in about 9:53. Paula was there, not Carla. Got home about 10:30, read paper. To bed at 1:45.

Tuesday, December 11, 1990: Woke at 7:45, turned up heat & went back to bed a little bit. Got up at 8:00, fed Sam. Dressed, opened his door. Had O.J. & Shake, read a little. Tried to call Linda, no answer. Finished watering violets & other flowers, took out garbage & mailed letters. Worked on Bible Study, short lesson. Had lunch, then worked on letters & greetings. Hunted up & paid Discover Bill, also P.W. Drug invoices. Nancy called, Paul got home. Talked to Linda, doesn’t think she has to work tomorrow. Worked on letters again, got in mail & paper. Got supper & ate, emptied dish washer & did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:40.

Wednesday, December 12, 1990: Woke about 6:00, turned up heat. Went back to bed & slept till 7:50, got up & fed Sam. Washed & dressed, opened Sam’s door. Had breakfast, finished getting ready. Matt called about a ride down to school. Left about 9:40, Linda teaching again today. After Bible study went out to K-Mart, then to Shop-Ko. Came back to Caldwell, paid Ins., went to P.W. Drug, then to Bank, Kings, got groc., then home. Unloaded car, put away groc. Looked at mail, got supper. Went to choir practice, got home about 8:50. Read paper, watched TV. Watched VCR a while. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:40.

Started snowing about 9:00. Thursday, December 13, 1990: Woke at 6:30, turned up heat. Back to bed but couldn’t sleep so got up & watched VCR till 8:00, fed Sam & dressed. Opened his door, had O.J. & Shake. Called Linda, didn’t have to teach today. Made a big batch of fudge, half w/nuts & half w/o. Then worked on cards the rest of the day. Had veggies for ^{Took nap in A.M.} lunch, stopped doing letters about 4:30 & washed & changed clothes. Got ready to go to Cindy’s concert, had supper. Nancy came about 6:45 & we went to Jewett, roads pretty slick. Got home about 9:00, did dishes & watched TV. Then watched VCR, brushed teeth. To bed at 1:00.

7° last night. Friday, December 14, 1990: Woke at 6:30, turned up heat a little & went back to sleep. Woke at 7:55, got up & fed Sam. Turned up heat rest of the ^{had breakfast.} way, dressed. Opened Sam’s door, paid Dr. bill. Washed & put up hair, went in & worked on cards & letters. Mailed those I had ready about 12:30, had lunch. Went back in family room & wrote more notes & letters. Put up a few more decorations, went out & got mail & paper about 5:30. Shut Sam’s door, looked at mail. Got supper & ate, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. After news went in & watched VCR. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:30.

Saturday, December 15, 1990: Woke at 6:30, turned up heat & went back to bed. Slept till 8:30, read a little. Got up about 9:30, took shower. Dressed, opened Sam’s door. Had O.J. & toast, called Paula. Went in & started working on letters, quit about 1:00 & mailed what I had done. Had lunch, put up a few decor. in fam. room. Went back to letters, quit again at 5:15. Went out & got mail, looked at mail. Got supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Baked cake for tomorrow, sliced ham. Made sandwiches, called Linda. Finished slicing ham, didn’t get cake iced. To bed at 1:10. Back kind of hurting again. Still no snow.

Sunday, December 16, 1990: Woke about 7:00, turned up heat. Went back to bed & slept till 7:50, got up & fed Sam. Washed & dressed, opened Sam’s door. Finished getting ready, decided not to stay for soup & sand. lunch so didn’t take cake & sandwiches. Stopped at M&W & got tree, also groc. When I got home, about 1:05, unloaded groc. & put away. Changed clothes, watched painting. Had sandwich, coffee. Put tree in boiling water, Carla came. Got down tree decor., put tree in stand & brought it in. Put on lights & decorations, Mike came by and helped. He called Cindy & she came & helped too; Really looks & smells nice. Nancy & Paul came over, too. After they left we had sandwiches & pot. salad, also cake. Carla left, I called Linda. Then did dishes, read paper, soaked feet & watched TV. Wrote letters, watched VCR. To bed at 1:10.

Monday, December 17, 1990: Woke at 7:20, tried to go back to sleep. Finally got up at 7:45, fed Sam. Turned up heat, dressed. Had breakfast, opened Sam’s door, went in & worked on letters. Quit about 1:00 & mailed what I had ready, had lunch. Made another batch of fudge, ½ w/nuts & ½ w/o. Worked on letters a little more, nearly done. Cleaned off & waxed top of piano, dusted & put up record pole. Got in mail & paper, took out garbage. Got supper, did dishes. Made small batch of divinity, oh yes, Helen F. came today. Read paper & looked at mail, watched TV. Went in & watched VCR a little. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:45.

Tuesday, December 18, 1990: Woke at 7:20, turned up heat & fed Sam. Went back to bed, read Bible lesson. Dressed, had toast & O.J. Opened Sam’s door, put up hair. Finished letters & greetings, paid tel. bill & mailed letters. Put away divinity, took fudge out of pans & cut in pcs. Took heat tape & outdoor ext. cord out & wrapped oil line, covered it w/plastic – all ready to plug in if it gets cold enough. Had lunch, started to wrap gifts – Linda, Paula, Mike, Cindy. About 4:30 started to get ready for Meg’s recital, left about 5:15. Sharon N. came just as I was leaving so left books & my stuff. Recital over about 6:40, Ted came home w/me. I fixed & ate supper, did dishes. Watched VCR, then news. Got calendars marked, got Mr. Shaws & Ruths ready to mail. Looked at mail, didn’t have time for paper. To bed at 1:00. Meg was best one at the recital.

Saratoga Hotel burned last night! Margie’s B’Day. Wednesday, December 19, 1990: Woke at 7:20, turned up heat & fed Sam. Went back to bed & worked on Bible lesson, didn’t get it finished. Got up at 8:00, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, opened Sam’s door but he didn’t go out so closed it again. Finished getting ready to go downtown, Lind wasn’t at Bible Study so guess she had to work. Stopped & got catfood, went out to Anthony’s and got some red Hush Puppies & some shirts. Had lunch, came back & mailed pkgs. Went to P.W. Drug, then Paul’s for groc. Stopped & got gas on way home, took decor. to cemetery. Really snowing by then, bro’t in mail. Unloaded car, put away groc., etc. Meg called, they cancelled concert because of snow. Got supper, did dishes. Got candy ready for neighbors, made another batch of fudge. Watched TV. To bed at 12:40.

Really snowed & blew last night. Getting cold tonight. 4° above. Thursday, December 20, 1990: Woke at 5:30, back to sleep. When I woke again was little after 8:00, forgot to set my alarm. Got up, turned up heat. Fed Sam, dressed. Had O.J. & shake, watched WHEEL. Saw announcement “no school” so called Linda, none tomorrow either. Got last cards ready, Mike & Cindy cleaned off my sidewalk & driveway. Mailed cards, finished watering violets & watered most of rest of flowers. Started cleaning in fam. room again, had lunch. Worked in fam. room, Helen McB. called & brought over treat. I gave her theirs & also Jan & Larrys. Mike & Matt came by for some candy. Called over & Meg said she guessed there was still choir practise so got ready. Got supper, practise at 7:00. Got home about 8:30, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Judy called & I called Carla,. Made double batch of rocky road candy. To bed at 12:40. Turned on fm. room lite & plugged in heat tape tonight.

Really cold tonight – therm said 10° – already before I went to bed. Friday, December 21, 1990: Woke about 2:30, back to sleep till 6:30. Couldn’t sleep so read paper, may have dozed a little. Got up about 8:00, turned up heat. Fed Sam, didn’t even open his door today – he won’t go out anyway & I’m glad. Dressed, had breakfast. No school again today, talked to Linda a little. Doorbell rang, it was Meg, Amy & 2 boys. Played a Christmas Gram for me, was really pretty. Mike & Cindy here a little bit, they decided to go to Marie Callender’s in Boise, so called Carla & had her call Paula. Put away candy, cleaned in family room. Have it nearly done, about 5:00 washed & changed clothes. Got ready to go to Boise. Checked heat tape & wasn’t working so took heating pad out & used it for tonight. Started to clean off dining table, Sam wet in suitcase! I was sure mad at him. Nancy coming over to help clean tomorrow. To bed at 1:15.

-25° last night – this is absolutely uncalled for! MOM’S B’DAY – 1892. Saturday, December 22, 1990: Woke about 7:00 & turned up heat, furnace was running, so happy to know the heating pad is working. Fruit room O.K. too. Went in & watched VCR (Dallas) until 8:00. Fed Sam, dressed. Had O.J. & toast, Nancy called – nobody can get their cars started. Linda called & asked if she could use my car so Ted came over & got it, had a little trouble getting it started. Nancy came over about 10:00, dusted & vacuumed liv. rm., hall & bath. Then did kitchen, dining room, sm. bath. I swept utility & we picked up dirt w/sweeper. Bro’t in old suitcase & I put papers in it, had lunch. Nancy took candy to Dennetts & Ila for me, I did dishes. Finished up family room, found lights & put them on mantel & over piano. Got in mail, just ready to get supper when power went off so we went down to Wendy’s. It was on when we got back, watched TV & finished clean off dining table. Took shower. To bed at 1:10.

Put el. blanket on car, hope it will start this morning. Not supposed to be quite so cold. Sunday, December 23, 1990: Woke at 7:00, back to sleep till alarm rang at 8:00. Went back to sleep! & telephone woke me – Nancy calling to see if my car would start. Told her I’d let her know before they left. Washed face, brushed teeth. Dressed, got ready. Tried car & it started right off. Called Nancy. Had breakfast, left about 9:50. Nancy & I were greeters, had Sunday School Program this morn. Had cookies & coffee afterwards, then choir practise. Stopped at store & got groc. (turkeys), just carrying in groc. & put blanket back on car when Carla came, she brought her gifts. I made divinity candy, then got supper. She left about 5:30, I did dishes. Watched TV, cleaned off stove & work tables. Read paper, to bed at 12:25.

CHRISTMAS EVE! Monday, December 24, 1990: Woke about 5:30, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up, dressed. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Had breakfast, started wrapping presents. Worked at that all morning, put away candy ^{& [illegible word]}. Cleaned off table & cabinet, also stove. Brought turkeys in to thaw, fixed stockings for tonight. Had lunch, still wrapping. Took little nap, Mike stopped by. Later on Meg & Cindy were here, called Linda about church. Washed & changed clothes & got ready. Had soup & salad, Linda & Ted picked me up. Church service was very nice & we sang a lot of songs, both choir & congregation. Got home about 9:00, Linda, Ted, Meg & Cindy stopped by & brought in presents. Had candy & Linda looked at cards. I ate more supper. Cleaned turkeys & put out in car, hope they don’t freeze again. Finished stockings & wrapping. To bed at 2:30.

CHRISTMAS Tuesday, December 25, 1990: Woke about 7:00 but didn’t get up, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up & dressed, fed Sam. Turned up heat & turned on all Xmas lites, played Xmas carols. Did odds & ends – cleaned sink in bathroom, put away sweeper, etc. Mike came over & swept my sidewalks; Nancy, Paul & Cindy came & we had breakfast. Linda, Ted & kids went to church, got here about 11:15. Rest late, too. I got turkeys in oven about noon, then we opened presents. Everyone did their thing till I got dinner ready about 4:30-5:00. Carla & Bill left about 6:00, dogs were not behaving. Ran 1 load in dishwasher, had a concert (Cindy & Megan) about 7:30. Rest played Farkle & 31, I cleaned up food & kitchen. Finally sat down & rested a while, pretty tired & feet hurt. Kitchen still quite a mess. To bed at 12:55.

Wednesday, December 26, 1990: Woke about 7:30, got up & fed Sam. Turned up heat, went in & watched VCR till 8:00. Dressed, had O.J. & snacked. Started straightening up kitchen, vacuumed floor. Brought table back, emptied dishwasher & put away silver. Carried dishes into dining room, went out & swept paths. Took garbage out, had lunch. Mike came by & finished cleaning off drive, Cindy over a while, too. Feet & back hurt so sat down & soaked feet for about an hour; cleaned off turkey carcass & boiled it for soup. Clipped finger ^{washed dishes.} nails, went in & watched VCR again. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Washed rest of dishes, ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Finished watching new tape on VCR. Brushed teeth, To bed at 1:30.

Thursday, December 27, 1990: Woke at 7:00, back to sleep till 8:00. Watched “Wheel” in bed, didn’t get up till 9:00. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, had O.J. & snacked. Called Linda, said she’d probably be going downtown tomorrow. Finished paper, emptied dishwasher & put away rest of dishes & silver. Cleaned meat off bones in turkey broth, put in vegetables & ^{had lunch} made soup. Watched VCR some, cleaned meat off other turkey & got it ready to cook bones. Judy called to see how I was doing, I made up deposit for Linda to take down. Put out some crumbs for birds, also scraps for cats. Took nap, watched VCR again. Got in mail & papers, got supper. Did dishes, more VCR. Read paper & watched TV, then more VCR. Have 3 tapes emptied now. Brushed teeth. To bed at 1:40.

Friday, December 28, 1990: Woke about 7:00, tried to go back to sleep. Watched “Wheel” in bed, then got up & dressed. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Not quite so cold as it has been, snowed again last night. Took Sam & we went out & swept sidewalks, Mike came and did driveway. Nancy & Paul came up & hung my squirrel feeder, don’t know if they found it today or not. Matt came over w/his coat for me to fix, Linda & Meg came & took my deposit down, got my pkg. It was the clothes. I finished putting away dishes, vacuumed dining room & moved table back. Took boxes & bows out of living room, vacuumed floor. Had lunch about 2:30, Linda got in the mail. Went out & got paper, got supper. Did dishes, read paper & watched TV. Went down & sewed Matt’s coat, then sewed on button. Watched VCR a while, brushed teeth. Tried on clothes. To bed at 1:30. Wind blowing tonite!

Saturday, December 29, 1990: ^{^Sam} woke ^{^me} about 7:00, dozed a little. Got up about 8:45; called Linda about going to Boise. Said she would call me later, I fed Sam & turned up heat. Took shower, washed hair. Got cutting ^equip., rollers, etc., ready to take along, left about 10:15. Roads clear, Linda & Ted started to clean & Paula cut my hair. I put up front & she put up back for me. Then we just talked & she showed me her new water bed & bedroom upstairs. We got ready to leave about 4:00, all went to Wendys & had Sandwich. Went downtown & got books for Matt, came out on new Connector. Got home about 5:45, discovered furnace was off so checked downstairs. Finally had to call Ted & he decided oil line was frozen – can’t figure it out – but when he poured hot water over it was O.K. Ran all evening, put trouble light on it so hope that keeps it going. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Brushed teeth. To bed at 12:46.

Sunday, December 30, 1990: Woke early, back to sleep. Woke about 7:55, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, finished getting ready. Left about 10:00, guest minister today. Had coffee after church, stopped & got groc. on way home. Carla here when I got home. Put away groc., then fixed dinner. Carla left about 4:20. I went in to watch VCR & fell asleep. Linda called, got their new phone hooked up. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Watched Fun. videos on VCR. To bed at 12:15.

GOODBYE 1990! Monday, December 31, 1990: Woke at 7:30, tried to go back to sleep but couldn’t. Read a little, got up about 8:15. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, had breakfast. Called about oil, girl said they couldn’t get up here till Fri. Dennis came about 11:00, didn’t fill tank but said he’d come up in a few days & finish filling it. Called Nancy & she said she’d be up & vacuum for me, surely a big help. I had breakfast, started cleaning vegs. Emptied dishwasher, watered flowers & part of violets. Cooked mac. for salad, had lunch. Finally finished vegs., made salad. Had soup, got in mail & paper. Changed clothes, read paper & watched TV. Paula & Jim came, started a puzzle. Nancy & kids & Paul came, Linda, Ted & kids came about 10:00, went to church first. Put ^{^out} snacks, Played games & worked jigsaw puzzles. After midnight had lunch. Matt & Cindy left. Megan played & we sang, Carla left. Called about 2:10, got home OK. Others left, I finished putting stuff away. To bed at 3:59. Now it’s 1991. Wonder what the year will bring.

Mike’s Birthday. Friday, December 1, 1989: Woke about 7:00, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up about 7:20 & watched VCR. Fed Sam, turned up heat. Had breakfast at 8:30, fed Goldie & opened Sam’s door. Haven’t seen or heard anything more of the black cat so guess he went out. Baked Mike’s cake, washed & put up hair. Cleaned a little more in bedroom, moved stuff from hall to blue bedroom. Had lunch, cleaned stuff off dining table. Cleaned stuff off kitchen table, moved toaster & coffee maker. Vacuumed kitchen & dining room floors, iced & decorated cake. Washed & changed clothes, Nancy called & we decided to take the cake along & go to Paula’s for cake & ice cream. Ate at Marie Callendars, was about 12:00 by the time we got home. To bed at 12:50.

Saturday, December 2, 1989: Woke about 6:00, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Watched VCR a while, dressed & had breakfast. Fed Goldie, worked some x-words. Started cutting out Meg’s dress, tried to call Linda several times but not home from Paula’s yet. Had lunch, rinsed dishes & ran dishwasher. Pain in my right chest area today, don’t know what it is but kind of feels like pleurisy. Watched VCR again a while, got top of Meg’s dress cut out this morning, pinned skirt on but think I’d better measure a little before I cut it out. Got supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Linda called & then Judy, read last night’s paper & watched TV. Got some papers sorted today. Finished watching Falcon Crest. To bed at 12:25. Brushed teeth.

Chest hurt some off & on again today. Sunday, December 3, 1989: Woke about 7:00, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, watched VCR till 8:00. Took shower & dressed, had breakfast. Finished getting ready, fed Goldie. Left about 10 till 10:00, little foggy downtown. Had coffee & cake after church, stopped at Kings & got lights. Got milk, etc., at Pauls, home about 1:20. Changed clothes, watched Painting. Washed turkey legs & put on to cook, Carla called & said she had headache so didn’t come over. I watched VCR for about 2 hrs., worked Globe X-word. Cindy & Meg came over, then Paul & Nancy, too. Came in for a little & I showed them the pictures Mike sent, Cindy mowed the front yard. Couldn’t get through to back. I measured Meg for her dress, then we went out & put up new lights. Also hung wreath from Amy which Meg brought. After they left I finished supper, did dishes. Read paper & watched TV. To bed at 1:15.

Monday, December 4, 1989: Woke at 7:00, read paper ‘till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat & fed Sam. Pres. on TV so no “Wheel of Fortune”, called & talked to Linda. Had breakfast, fed Goldie. Did some misc. jobs, cut out skirt of Meg’s dress. Brought sewing machine up & sewed all darts, seams, etc., had lunch. Watered & fertilized flowers, also violets. Didn’t get all done. Worked on dress in afternoon & evening, too, changed shoes & went out to H. Way Dist to vote, then to Paul’s for cake mix. Forgot my billfold & had to go back home for it! Home about 6:00. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Sewed some more, then read paper. Watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Tuesday, December 5, 1989: Woke at 7:00, back to sleep a little while. Woke again at 7:45, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, had breakfast. Got dressed, fed Goldie. Took out garbage, baked Matt’s cake. Started on Bible Lesson, finished about noon. Had some lunch, iced & decorated cake. Finished watering & fertilizing flowers, finished cutting out Megan’s dress. Planted new plant in grow lamp planter, Helen F. here a little while. Watched & taped Jeopardy, Linda called. Cindy here a little while, went out & got in mail & paper. Brought trash cans back to back door. Got washed & changed clothes, got ready to go to Boise. Linda, Ted & kids came about 6:40, I rode with Mike, Paul & Cindy. Ate at Burger & Brew, then went to Paula’s for cake & ice cream. Got home about 11:15. To bed at 12:05. Feed kind of like I’m catching cold.

Wednesday, December 6, 1989: Woke about 6:00, back to sleep. Woke several times & finally got up at 7:45, watched VCR a little. Turned up heat & fed Sam, opened his door. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Got lists ready, finished getting ready to go downtown. Went to Bible Study, Linda subbed again today. After study went to P.W. Drug, to Jack’s for lunch, went to Bank, Farm Store for Mike’s gift, to Kings, then groc. at Pauls. Got Xmas tree there, then home. Unloaded car, put tree in hot water. Put away groc., watched & taped Jeopardy. Got in mail & paper, fed Goldie. Judy called, I had my supper. Went to choir practice w/Linda & Ted & Meg, took Matt to Library. Got home about 9:00, watched VCR & read paper. To bed at 12:05.

MATT’S BIRTHDAY  Thursday, December 7, 1989: Woke at 5:22 this morn. to the sound of a cat M-R-O-W-ing & then noises in the kitchen, it was that darn black cat in my house! I forgot to close Sam’s door last night & he’s still living in the basement. Ate all the food tonight while we were gone to supper. Was so upset I stayed up & watched VCR till about 8:00, turned up heat & fed Sam. Dressed, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, paid bills, taxes, irrig., etc. Got Xmas greeting for Jean & Derrick ready to mail, then worked on Megan’s dress. Had lunch, sewed again. Watched & taped Jeopardy, then washed & changed clothes. Got ready to go to Round Table Pizza for Matt’s birthday – Linda, Ted, Matt, Megan, Myrtle, Nancy, Paul, Mike, Cindy & I. Had fun, cat still in here when I got home. Left garage door & everything open but closed bedroom & bath & no food down so maybe he’ll leave tonight.

Friday, December 8, 1989: Woke at 6:40, got up & watched VCR until 8:00. Dressed, turned up heat & fed Sam. Opened bedroom door & I’m sure the CAT was shut in there, really smelled terrible. Think I must have chased him out tho’, I haven’t seen anything of him all day. Hope I never forget to shut that door again. Had breakfast, fed Goldie. Put rest of decor. up in livingroom. Sewed hems in ruffles, washed & put up hair first thing. Emptied dishwasher, washed dishes. Practiced songs a little, Meg came over & we tried on her dress. Sewed a little more. Recorded Jeopardy while Meg was here, watched it after she left. Got in mail & paper, had supper. Decided not to go to church tonite. Did dishes, cleaned off work table on R. side of sink. Sorted through papers, watched TV. To bed at 12:25.

Saturday, December 9, 1989: Woke about 7:00, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Called Marie, so nice to talk to her. Duane getting along pretty well, Leona about the same. Also called Sharon Nunes, got answering machine again. Had breakfast, fed Goldie & black longhair. Took shower, dressed. Got ready & went down to Christmas Parade, saw Cindy & Nancy. Parade was pretty long, wind got pretty cold by the time it was over. Went to P.O. but it was closed, to Paul’s for bathroom & got sandwich, bismarks & bread. Went to the nursing home to see Blanche, Laura came while I was there. Then to Dave & Mabels but no answer. Worked on Meg’s dress when I got home, took a little nap. Just ready to get supper when Tony D. came, we visited a while & then he went on. Had my supper, did dishes. Read papers, watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Sunday, December 10, 1989: Woke at 7:20, couldn’t go back to sleep so read till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside kitties, finished getting ready. Left about 9:50, practised downstairs. Sang 1 song & 2 prayer responses, several people said we sounded good so guess it was O.K. Jr. & Sr. Hi kids had lunch today, baked goodies & had a contest. Jr. Hi. kids won, all were good tho’. I bought a plate of chocolate mint brownies, had for our dessert. Linda, Nancy & I went to Dakan Chapel in afternoon for Les McClure visitation, Carla came just before we left. I had meat on cooking, finished up supper when we got back, ate about 5:30. Carla left about 6:30, I did dishes & ran dishwasher. Worked on Meg’s dress, watched TV. To bed at 12:05.

Monday, December 11, 1989: Woke about 6:20, turned up heat & fed Sam. Went back to bed but couldn’t sleep so read paper, got up about 8:00. Dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside kitties, got ready to go to funeral. Took Xmas things along & when funeral was over, took them to Jay & Daddies’ graves, brought summer baskets home. Went down to P.O. from cemetery & got stamps, mailed letter to Eng. Stopped at Dave & Mabels on way home & visited a while, she seems to be getting along pretty good. Had lunch when I got home, worked on greetings all afternoon. Watched & recorded Jeop., then greetings again. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes. Made large batch of candy, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 11:25.

Tuesday, December 12, 1989: Woke at 6:17, tried to go back to sleep. Finally got up about 6:45, turned up heat & fed Sam. Watched VCR & napped till about 8:30, watched “Wheel”. Dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside cats, put out garbage. Pretty cold out today. Called dentist, appt. Thurs. 10:45. Sharon N. called, came in P.M. & brought my stuff. Called about Cr. Card Protection, guess I did tell them I would take it. Started working on Bible Study, finished about 2:00. Had lunch, worked on Xmas greetings. At 4:30 watched & recorded Jeopardy, worked on cards again. Got supper, Cindy came over & asked some questions for school. Cleared up & did dishes, cut up & put away candy. Fixed box & calendar to send to Nancy’s Dad, got it ready to mail. Guess Paul left yesterday for WN. Got in mail & paper, looked at mail. Tried several times to call Paula but no answer. To bed at 12:40.

Wednesday, December 13, 1989: Woke at 6:15, turned up heat & fed Sam. Went out & watched VCR, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to Bible Study. Fed outside kitties, Linda called – has a flat tire so needed a ride. We went to Bible Study together, got catfood on way home. Ate at Red Steer; used one of my coupons. Then went to P.W. Drug, to Bank, to Paul’s for groc., mailed pkg., then home. Got home about 3:30, carried in groc. & put them away. Linda borrowed the car to go & get Matt, I watched & taped Jeopardy. Started supper, Judy called. Got in mail & paper, put car away. Had supper, went w/Linda & Ted to choir practise. Got home about 9:30, watched VCR till about 11:30 & worked on hooked pillow. To bed at 12:23.

Thursday, December 14, 1989: Woke at 5:57, back to sleep & slept till 7:56. Got up, turned up heat & fed Sam. Had breakfast, washed & dressed. Fed outside kitties, finished getting ready to go to dentist. Paula called just before I had to leave, had a little trouble finding his new office. Really didn’t hurt too much. Stopped at Kings on way home. Had can of soup for lunch, called Linda. She had to take their car down. I sewed on Meg’s dress all afternoon, ready for her to try on again. Just have a little hand sewing now, hem sleeves, fix back slit & put up hem. Got in mail & paper, had trout salad for supper. Did dishes, sewed again on Meg’s dress & watched TV. Watched VCR & napped. To bed at 1:30.

Friday, December 15, 1989: Woke about 6:45, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, went in & watched VCR till 8:15. Dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside cats, opened Sam’s door. Talked to Linda a little, washed & put up hair. Did hand sewing on Meg’s dress while I dried my hair, had lunch. Worked on greetings, watered flowers. Doorbell rang & it was Helen (Foreman) Cable, was so nice to see her but she told me her Mother is dying of lung cancer. So sad. Meg came over & tried on her dress, fits fine so I measured sleeve length & hem. Watched & taped Jeopardy, worked on cards again. Paid some bills, got in mail & paper. Fixed supper & ate, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Worked on Meg’s dress again while I watched TV, all finished now. Have to press it tomorrow. Watched VCR again. To bed at 12:50.

My face is blistered today. Had to put Calamine lotion on it so guess I won’t go to church. Saturday, December 16, 1989: Woke at 6:45, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR. Fed Sam & turned up heat, took shower. Dressed, opened Sam’s door. Had breakfast, talked to Nancy & to Judy. Fed outside kitties, pressed Meg’s dress. Took sewing machine, etc. downstairs. Called Linda, told her Meg’s dress was ready. Went out & sawed end off Xmas tree, Nancy & Cindy came & Nancy finished it. Put stand on tree, brought it in & set it up. Got down decorations & Nancy & Cindy helped decorate it. My feet hurt & I was tired so finally just sat down & they finished it, looks pretty. Mike came over a little while, too. After they left I got supper, got in mail. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes. Cleared off work table a little, made another big batch of candy w/o nuts. Watched show on TV. To bed at 1:10.

Sunday, December 17, 1989: Woke about 7:50, got up & watched VCR a while. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside cats, started working on greetings. Got some evergreen in & fixed basket of greenery, looks real nice. Had lunch, worked on cards again. Clouded over, Carla came about 3:00. We noticed that Sam wasn’t acting right, I called vet. When he called me back said I should bring him down. Carla watched Jeopardy tapes, we took Sam down about 6:00. Dr. said his bladder was distended, they would have to keep him & put in a catheter. Poor Sam, will probably be there till about Tuesday. Carla & I went to Olgas for something to eat, then home. Ate cake Linda brought for dessert, she took Meg’s dress. Also brought Matt’s graduation picture. I did dishes, then read paper & watched TV. Surely miss Sammy. To bed at 12:30.

Monday, December 18, 1989: Woke about 6:15, back to sleep until alarm rang at 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, dressed. Had breakfast, surely do miss Sam. Started working on cards, did misc. jobs from time to time for a break. Called vet about 10:30, had catheter in & draining bladder. Didn’t eat or drink anything yet, said to call back about 5:00 for more news. Called Linda about noon & told her, Carla called in afternoon to check on Sam. Paula called, too, coming over tomorrow. Had lunch, finished addressing cards. Got a bunch ready to mail, some I still have to write in. Got in mail & paper at 5:30, looked at cards. Cut stamps off envelopes, got supper. Did dishes, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:10.

Tuesday, December 19, 1989: Woke about 7:00, back to sleep till alarm rang at 8:00. Got up, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, fed outside kitties. Took out garbage & wheeled to front, mailed bal. of greetings. Wrote to Ann, Helen brought over my card & candy. Linda came & brought checks, I planted violet. Paula came about 1:00, brought Mollie & Winston. We had some lunch, she cut my hair & I trimmed hers. Then we wrapped pkgs., I looked for boxes. Cindy came over & said Paul got home. Paula left at 5:00, I put up my hair. Got in paper, Nancy brought mail. Dr. S. said I could probably bring Sam home tomorrow. Got supper, finished last few greetings. Did Bible lesson, watched TV. Carla called. Ted brought Linda’s gift to put under tree. To bed at 12:00. Fighting in Panama tonight.

Wednesday, December 20, 1989: Woke at 5:30 w/a crazy dream, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR tape. Then watched wrong tape! Got washed & dressed, had breakfast. Finished getting stuff ready to go downtown. Fed outdoor kitties, left for Bible Study, Linda didn’t go. Afterwards went to Bank, to Pauls for groc., got turkey at Judy’s & took her candy, then picked up Sam at Vet’s. Nearly $150.00. Got home about 1:30, unloaded groc. Had lunch, put away groc. Started writing letters, talked to Linda. Really wanted to hear Meg play tonight but just had to finish letters. Got in mail & papers, fixed supper. Cleared up, worked on letters again. On last one when I remembered carpet. Moved table & vacuumed, shampooed S. ½. To bed at 1:45.

Thursday, December 21, 1989: Sam woke me about 6:45, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR. About 8:15 got dressed, fed Sam & gave him his pill. Had breakfast, fed outside kitties. Vacuumed around Xmas tree, vacuumed kitchen & put table back. Changed cat box, vacuumed under Xmas tree. Finished letters, mailed last of cards. Started wrapping gifts, stopped to have lunch. Nancy called, wanted me to come over & see her poinsettia Paul brought down. It is huge & beautiful. Went back to wrapping gifts, Cindy came over. Later Megan & 3 friends came & brought me a “Christmas Gram,” played “Silent Night” on cello, viola & 2 violins. Was very pretty! Just remembered I forgot to wrap Carla & Judy’s gifts. Fixed supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Cindy came over, I made that marshm. divinity. Sent some home w/Cindy & they said it was good! Read paper, watched TV. Vacuumed other ½ of kitchen & shampooed carpet. To bed at 1:00.

Mama’s birthday – 1892  Friday, December 22, 1989: Sam woke me about 6:30, went back to sleep till 8:00. Dressed, turned up heat. Fed Sam, later fed outside cats. Had breakfast, wrapped rest of gifts. Straightened blue bedroom, made my bed & put bedspread back on. Cleaned off dining table, vacuumed ½ of kitchen again. Had lunch, Linda & Meg came to clean. I cleaned spot by piano, carried stuff out into garage from E. end of dining room. Wrapped candy for mailman & paper person, put out in boxes. Ila came over w/Xmas remembrance, then Daniel. Helen F. was here & brought church, it’s really cute. Got supper, did dishes. Cindy here off & on. Nancy, Paul & Mike came for a while, too. After they left I made more divinity. Not as good as last night’s I don’t think. Washed & brushed teeth, to bed 12:20.

Saturday, December 23, 1989: Woke about 7:40, got up & fed Sam. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Fed outside cats, finished getting ready. Left for choir practise about 8:50. Finished about 10:00, stopped for gas on the way home. Finished watering violets, also rest of flowers. Had lunch, fixed Xmas stockings. Did other misc. jobs. Fixed candy & greetings for Jordans, McBrides, Dennetts & Ila, delivered them & got in mail. Made another batch of fudge, ½ W. & ½ W.O. nuts. Put away Divinity candy, Cindy over for a while. Got supper, did dishes. Sliced ham, cleaned off work tables. Took shower, to bed at 12:15.

Sunday, December 24, 1989: Sam woke me at 7:05, went back to bed for a little but didn’t go to sleep. Got up about 7:30, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, fed Sam & outside cats. Finished getting ready for church. Left about 8:50, went through program. Actual performance went real well & think everybody liked it. Had coffee hour afterwards, I stopped at groc. store on way home. Carla here when I got home, we talked a while & then I changed clothes. Fixed lunch, Carla left about 3:00. I called Paula, Nancy, Paul & kids came over so I didn’t get anything else done. We all went out to J.B.s for supper, then went to church. Was a nice service, mostly carols. Got home about 9:00. Did dishes & ran dishwasher, cleaned off table & work tables. Got turkeys in & cleaned them, then put back out in car. To bed at 12:50.

CHRISTMAS DAY ‘89  Monday, December 25, 1989: Sam woke me at 7:08, turned up heat & went back to bed a little. Got up about 7:30, fed Sam. Got washed & dressed, fed Goldie. Turned on all Xmas lights, put on Xmas records. Cleaned off kitchen table, put in ham to warm. Got in rolls & bread, put socks in living room. Nancy, Paul & Mike came over & took ^{^their candles} & my candles to cemetery. Carla & Bill came. Cindy came with Ab, soon took him home. Paula, Jim & Judy came & then Linda, Ted & kids. Started opening gifts, Linda, Ted & Megan went to church. All got such nice gifts, had lots of fun. Fixed breakfast and got turkey in oven, got sleepy so laid down a while. Linda, Ted & kids went down to see Ted’s folks, when they got back we ate. Everybody played games, we ran a load of dishes. Cleared up some more. Everybody finally left about 10:30. I straightened up some. To bed at 1:15.

Tuesday, December 26, 1989: Christmas is over once more. Sam woke me about 7:30, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam & went back to bed. Slept off & on, finally got up about 9:00. Worked around the house, picking up papers & boxes. Vacuumed in kitchen, put away card table & moved kitchen table back. Had bkfst., fed Goldie. Brought in garbage pail, threw away wrappings. Put away boxes, Mike came over & also Cindy later, Carla called & also Judy. Had lunch, vacuumed living room, also dining room & put table back in place. Put away folding chairs, got supper. Did dishes & ran dishwasher, read paper & watched TV. Rested quite a bit today, was kind of tired. Got in mail & paper this eve. To bed at 12:30.

Wednesday, December 27, 1989: Woke about 3:30, back to sleep till 8:00. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Dressed, had breakfast. Called & talked to Linda, sorted papers & boxes. Fed Goldie, took garbage to front. Took boxes to garage, brought wrapping paper, seals, etc., out of bedroom. Read old paper, brought in turkey & had lunch. Put away china, also silver, & emptied dishwasher. Cleaned dining table cloth & put things back on table. Vacuumed end of dining room, also small bath. Carried paper, seals, etc. downstairs, got in mail & paper & brought cans back. Got supper, played solitaire a little & watched TV. Did dishes, cleaned off work tables. Watched VCR a while, read paper. To bed at 12:50. Napped a little in afternoon & tonite. Maxine Gilbert passed away yesterday.

Thursday, December 28, 1989: Woke at 7:30, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, watched VCR a while. Dressed, had breakfast. Linda called & we talked a while. Then I washed & put up my hair, sat under dryer a while. Read old papers, worked rest of calendar X-words. Did some misc. jobs, called Linda again about Maxine. Fed Goldie, got in mail & paper. Got wedding invitation from Leah W, wedding Sunday at 3:00. Got supper, did dishes & cleaned off part of stove. Read paper, watched TV. Vacuumed pink bath, part of my bedroom, & hall. Watched more VCR tape. Played some solitaire. To bed at 12:20.

Friday, December 29, 1989: Woke at 7:10, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, watched VCR a while. Had breakfast, talked to Linda. She & Megan going over to Paulas to clean today. Washed & dressed. Judy called & Nancy, too. Got list, etc., ready to go downtown, fed outside cats. Left about 12:00, went to M&W, P.W. Drug, Paul’s for groc., then home (about 3:00). Put away groc., watched & taped Jeopardy. Watched DoL, got in mail & paper. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Called Carla about Maxine, also Linda. Guess we’ll go to Memorial service. To bed at 12:25.

Saturday, December 30, 1989: Woke at 7:05, Sam wouldn’t let me go back to sleep. Got up, turned up heat. Fed Sam, watched VCR a while. Called Nancy, said she’d go along to Maxine’s service this afternoon. Had breakfast, Paula called. Took shower & dressed, called Linda. Put broccoli to soak, got ready to go. I drove, had a nice service. We stopped at Coffee Cup afterwards & had coffee. Got home about 3:00, got in mail. Fixed broccoli, put cauliflower to soak. Changed clothes, had some broth. Looked at mail, worked Globe X-word. Got supper, did dishes. Finished fixing vegs, took rest of bones out of turkey broth. Looked at papers, etc., watched TV. Went down & fixed coat, pressed sleeves of pink suit jacket. Guess I’ll wear it tomorrow. To bed at 1:00.

Sunday, December 31, 1989: Woke at 7:00, forgot to turn down furnace last night. Fed Sam, watched VCR till 8:00. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Finished getting ready, went to church about 9:50. Wind cold today, stayed for coffee hour. When I got home cooked macaroni, made jello. Vacuumed kitchen & dining room, emptied w. basket. Fed outside kitties, got ready again & we went to the wedding. From there to Leah’s house for reception, got home about 5:30. Changed clothes, started getting stuff out for snacking. Paul, Nancy & kids came about 8:30, then Linda, Ted & Megan, Matt & Cindy came later. Carla & Bill came about 10:00, we snacked & talked, some played poker & games; finally got the jigsaw puzzle out. It’s a hard one. At midnight all made noise & wished Happy New Year! Then got out lunch. Matt & Cindy came back. We cleared up & all left. Went to bed about 3:35. Kept going to sleep so couldn’t finish this.

Baked Mike’s birthday cake, had breakfast. Shopped in catalog for Xmas, sorted through some papers. Took Sam out in back with me & dug begonias, measured oil in barrel – lots left. Sam had lots of fun exploring back yard. Drank some juice & milk, iced & decorated cake. Cleaned off both dining & kitchen tables, vacuumed floors. Washed & got ready to go to supper, took down rest of Thanksgiving decorations. Cindy came over & wrote “Mike” on the cake, played w/Sam. Nancy, Paul & Mike came over, Carla & Bill came, Paula called & said she’d meet us at Golden Corral. When Linda & Ted & kids came we all went out & had a good supper, came back here & had cake & ice cream. All left by about 10:00, I read paper & watched TV. Judy called. To bed at 1:00.

Friday, December 2, 1988: Got up at 7:15, turned up heat. Watched VCR a while, dressed. Called Linda to see if she would like to go out to ShopKo w/me. Said she would so we left about 10:15, had juice & a roll before I went. Found sweaters for Meg, Mike & Cindy, more big red bows. Went to K-Mart & had lunch, took a tag from their tree & got presents for a little 18 mo. old girl (Samantha?). Went to Ernsts & got mirror for Carla, then home. Was tired & sleepy so put head down & slept a while. Fixed chicken leg for supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Cindy over for a while in afternoon. Read paper, watched TV. Forgot to soak feet. To bed at 12:45.

Saturday, December 3, 1988: Sammy woke me at 6:45, got up & turned up heat. Watched VCR till about 9:00, dressed. Took Serocult to mailbox, cleaned up litter box. Took out garbage, washed & put up hair. Had breakfast, went down to look for Xmas Greetings. Brought up some decorations, started vacuuming. Did living room, kitchen, hall, bath, dining room & small bath. Paula called, had a glass of milk for lunch. Got in mail, also brought in winter coats from fruit room. Filled bird feeders, let Sam out by himself in the backyard. Didn’t want to come in but did come in once by himself, then went back out. Stinker! Got supper, did dishes. Emptied dishwasher. Worked old X-words, watched TV. Brushed teeth, talked to Linda. To bed at 11:55.

Sunday, December 4, 1988: Sam woke me at 6:15, knew I couldn’t go back to sleep so got up. Turned up heat, watched VCR a while. Had breakfast, then took shower. Sam wet on some papers this morning! He’d better not do that again. Dressed, got ready for church. Really foggy this morning. Still foggy when I got out of church, went right home. Changed clothes & watched “Painting.” Carla called. Decided not to come over because of the fog. I let Sam out the back & he came in by himself after a while, all wound up. Put roast in oven, read paper. Got sleepy so put head down & slept a while. Stayed foggy all day. Finished up supper & ate, did dishes. Finished paper, watched TV. Called Paula this afternoon. To bed at 12:25.

Monday, December 5, 1988: Sam woke me again about 6:15, crawled under the covers but I had to get up so turned up the heat & then watched VCR ‘till nearly 9:00. Dressed, put plastic on porch railing. Got up wrapping paper, boxes, & more decorations, wrapped gifts for ‘Samantha.’ Put up wreath & candlabra [sic], straw wreath on back door. Had breakfast, wrote letter to Leona & got her birthday card ready to mail. Worked on Bible Study lesson, had lunch. Let Sam out several times today through garage & he found his way back in. Addressed some Xmas cards, Cindy over to see Sam. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 6, 1988: Sam woke me at 6:15, turned up heat & went back to bed. Couldn’t sleep so got up & watched VCR. Got dressed about 8:30, let Sam out through garage. Mailed Leona’s card, started addressing Xmas cards. Had breakfast at 11:00, looked at yesterday’s mail. Went back to cards, talked to Linda. Man from IDS came, had juice & apple for lunch. Went back to cards, got all done except the neighbors. Got in mail & paper, snowed about noon & really slick under foot. Forgot to put garbage out today. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Got stuff ready for downtown, hope it’s not too slick in the morning. To bed at 12:40.

MATT’S BIRTHDAY [mathematical equation of 88-17 = 1971.] Sam woke me at 6:10, tried to go back to sleep. Finally got up about 6:45, turned up heat. Watched VCR until 7:45, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got stuff ready to go downtown. Let Sam out about 9:15 & he wasn’t in when I got ready to leave, went out & looked for him & called but couldn’t find him. Left doors open for him but was kind of worried, he was in when I got home. Roads were pretty icy today but sun shining, went to Pet Store & got catfood & to C to C for light touch control & Linda’s gift. Met her at Mr. Vs for lunch, from there to P.O., to P.W. Drug, M&W for Xmas tree, to Pauls for groc. Got home about 3:15, put away groc. Sharon Nunes came & I spent some time w/her, then worked on Globe X-word. Left about 5:45 & went to Pizza Hut for supper, when I got home worked on X-word again. Went to choir practise at 7:20, took cake & ice cream to Linda’s & celebrated Matt’s B’day. Came home about 9:45 w/Nancy & Cindy, read paper & watched TV. Worked on X-word again. To bed at 12:50. Foggy again tonite.

Thursday, December 8, 1988: Woke about 5:30, went back to bed & slept until 7:45. Got up & turned up heat, watched VCR a while. Judy called & we talked quite a while, cloudy again today. Dressed, took out garbage. Worked on cards a little. Fixed breakfast, about to eat when Helen F. came. Spent quite a while with her, ate after she left. Made a big batch of fudge, some w/nuts & some w/o. Got rest of decorations up from basement, put most of them up inside. Had juice & milk, called Linda but she wasn’t home yet, talked to Matt. Linda called me later, may go over to Boise Sat. for Matt’s dinner. Got in mail & paper, got supper. After supper did dishes, emptied dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Raining or snowing when I looked out. To bed at 1:00.

Friday, December 9, 1988: Woke about 5:30 but went back to sleep, woke again at 7:40. Got up & turned up heat, watched VCR a while. Dressed, watered & fertilized all flowers. Sam threw up in livingroom so I cleaned that up. Had breakfast, rained a little early in morning. Worked on cards & wrote letters, put up more lights, etc. Oh, yes, washed & put up my hair about 9:00. Had lunch, then went back to cards. Got all ready to mail except the ones I want to write letters in, quite a few of them tho’. Got sleepy in afternoon so put my head down & slept a while. Talked to Linda, going to supper in Boise tomorrow night for Matt’s B’Day. Got in mail & paper. Fixed supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:40.

Saturday, December 10, 1988: Woke about 5:40 but went back to sleep, again at 7:45. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam & watched VCR a while. Judy called, back to VCR. Cindy came over to see if I was going to the parade, took shower & dressed. Called Marilyn, she’s doing great. Found Fran had some polyps in colon, otherwise O.K. Ate part of roll, finished getting ready & went downtown. Got potpouri [sic] at C. to C. & shoes & VHS tapes at Yellow Front. To Sears & got order (pet door), walked up to corner of 9th & Blaine. Watched parade there, saw Cindy on G.S. float. When I got home had breakfast, took bows & greenery out & decorated lamp & pole. Checked outdoor lites, Mike came over & hung them for me. Came in & started a letter to Leona, got sleepy so put my head down & slept a little. Linda called, said they wanted to leave about 5:00. Right after that Art Bosselman called, talked a little while. He didn’t know Daddy & Jay were gone. Nancy came & we left for Boise, all met at Paula’s. Went to Park Center Lake, had music & very pretty fireworks. From there went to Elmer’s Pancake House for supper; all got pretty cold at fireworks. Went back to Paula’s, left for home about 11:00. To bed at 12:55.

Got up about 8:10. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Finished getting ready for church, Cindy called & went along with me. After church Matt, Mike & Cindy rode home with me, Cindy came to my house. Changed clothes, watched Painting. Helped Cindy set up road race, vacuumed living room & kitchen. Cindy helped me set up tree, got all decorations down from closet. Tested lights & hung on tree, Carla came & we went out to the Mall. She found her cannisters [sic] at Emporium, took present for “Samantha” to K-Mart. Ate supper at J.B.s Big Boy, then home. Carla left, after a while, Cindy too. I watched VCR, cut candy in pcs. – To bed at 12:00.

Monday, December 12, 1988: Sammy woke me at 6:30, got up & turned up heat. Watched VCR until about 7:30, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, fed Sammy. Gave him his mouse to play with & he really likes it. Finished getting ready, picked up Linda. Went down & got Judy, drove by & paid shop water bill. Went to bank & made shop & my deposit, then to Boise. Came very close to having an accident on the way over, Simplot Truck pulled right out in front of me. Really scary! Paula drove when we got to Boise, took us to the Mall. Talked to Carla. We went to The Bon Marché, Sears, J.C. Penney, etc., ate lunch at the Mall. On way back to Paulas stopped at Best & got Meg’s pearl. Left for home about 4:15, went by Linda’s bank, took Judy home. Cindy came over, we put ornaments on tree. I fixed TV dinner for supper, did dishes. Leona called & I also talked to Alice. Read mail & paper, watched TV. Also WHEEL on VCR. To bed at 12:10. Called Paula.

Tuesday, December 13, 1988: Woke around 4:30, back to sleep until 6:40. Got up & turned up heat, watched VCR until about 9:00. Dressed, put out garbage. Called Paul, started on Bible Lesson. Had breakfast at 11:00, put rest of ornaments on tree. Finished Bible lesson, wrote letters in Xmas cards. Had juice, milk, apple & orange for lunch. Got candy & towel ready for Nancy’s Dad. Wrote more letters, got sleepy several times so put head down & slept. Got in mail & paper, brought garbage pails back. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Got list, etc., ready for tomorrow. Paid tel. bill, put few things away. To bed at 12:25.

Wednesday, December 14, 1988: Woke about 4:30, back to sleep until 6:30. Got up & turned up heat, watched VCR & worked on “pig” till 8:00. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Linda called, has little upset today so not going to bible study. I finished getting ready, dropped things for Nancy’s Dad off at her place on way down. Cindy running temp., didn’t go to school today. After Bible Study stopped at P.W. Drug, then to Kings, got groc. at Paul’s, Pet Haven Book at Book Store, got gas, then home. (about 2:15). Brought in & put away groc., had lunch. Watched TV & worked Globe X-word, got sleepy so put head down & napped a while. Looked at mail, got in paper. Got supper, then went to choir practise. Did dishes when I got home, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:10. Cold wind blowing all day today – still is.

Thursday, December 15, 1988: Sam woke ^{^me} at 6:30, couldn’t go back to sleep. Got up & turned up heat, fed Sam. Went in & watched VCR until about 8:30, then got dressed. Called Linda, she’s feeling better. Started working on letters, had breakfast at 11:00. Worked on Globe X-word off & on, wrote letters again. Called Nancy, forgot – Judy called about 9:00. Nancy took Cindy to Dr. this A.M., has bronchitis. Had glass of milk & 1 grapefruit for lunch, wrote letters again. Got sleepy, put my head down & napped a while. Took out garbage, changed cat litter box. Got in mail & paper. Put up string of lights on burning bush, looked at mail. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45. Nancy called this eve, said Paul won’t have surgery tomorrow. Slight infection in lungs they want to clear up first.

Friday, December 16, 1988: Woke about 5:30, back to sleep & Sammy woke me at 6:30. Got up & watched VCR until about 8:30. Dressed, talked to Linda. Started working on cards, had breakfast. Back to cards, mailed those I had ready. Watered a few flowers, back to cards. Took short nap, had lunch. Cards again, got sleepy & napped again. Cleaned out kitty box, wrote more letters. Got in mail & paper, looked at mail. Nancy called, also Jim. Had supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Paula called about 10:30. To bed at 12:40.

Saturday, December 17, 1988: Woke about 6:10, slept a little but Sam kept bothering me. Finally got up about 6:30, turned up heat, fed Sam & watched VCR a while. Dressed, called Nancy. Washed & put up hair, called Linda. Wrote 1 letter, had breakfast. Called & talked to Velda, wrapped gift for Helen. Carla called, watered all flowers. Started to vacuum living room, fixed grow light in hanging planter. Almost had a catastrophe, whole thing fell down but nothing broke. Finished living room, vacuumed kitchen, hall, bath, dining room & small bath. Went out & fixed light in fruit room, left top light on. Looked at mail, got supper. Did dishes, made big batch of candy – ½ w/nuts & ½ w/o. Read first part of Pet Haven Book, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Sunday, December 18, 1988: Sam woke me about 6:10, couldn’t go back to sleep so read a while. Got up about 7:40, took shower & dressed. Had breakfast, finished getting ready & went to church. Didn’t stay for luncheon because I forgot about it & didn’t bring any sandwiches & cookies. When I got home I changed clothes, watched painting programs. Cindy came over, I cleaned off kitchen table, started supper. Almost all ready by the time Bill & Carla came, went out & showed Bill what I wanted done in backyard. Loosened block & took it out so I could open back garage door. Got supper on table & we ate, Cindy ate with us. Carla & Bill left about 7:00, Cindy right after we ate. I did dishes & ran dishwasher, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Monday, December 19, 1988: Snowing! Woke about 5:40, tried to go back to sleep. Finally read & then dropped off, woke about 8:00. Got up, turned up heat. Dressed, fed Sam. Judy called, then I called Linda. Wrapped 1 pkg., had breakfast. Started on letters, mailed those I had done about 1:45. Paul came over in A.M. & cleaned snow off sidewalk & driveway, I gave him a pkg. of candy. Had lunch, then worked on letters again. Just 3 more left to do, got in mail & paper. Got supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Read paper & looked at mail, watched TV. Took short nap in afternoon. To bed at 11:50.

Tuesday, December 20, 1988: Woke at 5:30, back to bed & read till I fell asleep again. Woke at 7:45, got up & turned up heat. Fed Sam, got dressed. Started drinking juice & taking Alka 2 also zinc as I am getting a cold, not very cold outside. Started working on letters, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, Took garbage out, mailed cards. Wrote more letters, got stuff ready to take to cemetery. Sam got into the kitty toys. Jerry Blake ?, Phys. Mutual salesman, came about 3:30, brought my Ins. Pol. While he was here the man came & brought the new kickplate for the freezer. Nancy, Paul & Cindy came about 4:30 & we went over & decorated the little tree, really raw, cold wind blowing & raining a little. Got in mail & later paper, filled bird feeder today. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:40. Checked off Xmas card envelopes today.

Wednesday, December 21, 1988: Woke about 6:00, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR. Dressed, called Linda. Finished letters & cards, put them in mail. Not very cold. Took Chlortrimeton & made me sleepy & dizzy, laid down & slept for quite a while. Really felt rotten. Went in & put gifts in boxes, took off tags. Wrapped packages & put them under the tree. Still have a few more to do. Got in mail & paper, looked at mail. Fixed supper, did dishes. Read paper & watched TV. Order came from Carol Wright tonight. Took another Chlortrimeton. To bed at 11:10.

Thursday, December 22, 1988: Woke at 6:00, got up & fed Sam. Back to bed & slept a while, woke again at 7:45. Turned up heat, then watched VCR & worked on picture till about 9:45. Dressed, watered all flowers. Had breakfast, put away some stuff on dining table. Talked to Linda, made another big batch of candy. Had juice for lunch, don’t feel as bad today as yesterday. Put up rest of little decorations in dining room & family room. Wrapped another package, snowed off & on all day. Jan brought me over a plate of goodies from her Mother so I sent my candies over with her, now I just have Dennetts & Ilas to deliver. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Friday, December 23, 1988: Woke about 3:50, fed Sam & went right back to sleep. Woke again at 8:00 but dropped off again & slept till 9:00. Got up, turned up heat. Looked for silver goblets & finally found them in drawer of double dresser in blue bedroom. Boy, was I glad! Wrapped them for Paula & Jim. Had breakfast, Paul came over & shovelled my sidewalks & drive again. Turned candy out of pans, cut it in pieces. Got Judy’s box ready & wrapped her gift, got Montgomery’s ready. Wrapped some more gifts, had chicken broth for lunch. Cindy came over, Carla called. Ila came over & gave me a can of salmon & plate of goodies, so I gave her her candy. Put candy in box for paper carrier. Fixed supper, Linda & Megan over a while. Did dishes, (emptied dishwasher). Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:25. Still not snowing; moon shining.

Saturday, December 24, 1988: Woke about 3:30, back to sleep. Woke several times more, finally got up about 8:00. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Went in & watched VCR, worked on picture. Judy called, I called Linda. Still don’t feel very good. Paula called & also Carla this afternoon. Finished wrapping gifts, Linda brought catfood so I had her take Dennetts candy over to them – also Montgomerys candy & calendar. Laid down & slept several times. Had breakfast, washed & dressed. Fixed Carla’s mirror pkg. & put it in car, also card table & chairs. Took out garbage & got in mail. Got supper, did dishes. Cooked cranberries & made jelly. Got in berries & Cool-Whip. Paula & Jim came for a little bit. Nancy called in P.M. & had Cindy bring up some medicine, sure settled down that cough. Stuffed stockings. Worked Globe X-word. To bed at 12:30.

CHRISTMAS. Sunday, December 25, 1988: Woke early ^{^several times} went back to sleep. Finally got up about 8:10, turned up heat & fed Sam. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Set jello, made raspberry dessert. Carried all presents, etc., to the car. Got ready to go to Paula’s. Nancy, Paul, Cindy & Mike came over to see her gift – Paul & Mike carried it home. They said I might as well ride with them, so we transferred everything to Paul’s van. Roads to Boise were real [?] going over, icy when we came back. We visited, fixed the table, etc. After Carla & Bill came & then Linda, Ted & kids, we opened presents. Everybody seemed happy with what they got, was a nice Christmas. We finished up dinner, ate about 4:30. Cleared up & Paula ran load of dishes. We left for home about 7:00, made it O.K. Put away gifts, then read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:10.

Monday, December 26, 1988: Woke several times toward morning, got up once & fed Sam & turned up heat. Got up about 8:30, dressed. Talked to Linda & later to Nancy, Judy called in afternoon. Finished last night’s paper, hung up  my clock. Put away Xmas gifts, etc., had breakfast. Worked on Linda’s picture, nearly finished. Chest congestion really breaking loose today, cold sore also much better. Had lunch, divided up cranberry & raspberry jello for Nancy & Linda. Nancy came & got hers but Linda forgot. Worked on picture again in afternoon & evening. Checked light & temp. in fruit room, getting cold tonight. Supposed to be down around 0°, got in paper. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:45.

Tuesday, December 27, 1988: Woke several times, got up about 8:10. Turned up heat, fed Sam. Finished paper from last night, took shower. Washed & put up hair, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, dried hair & worked on pig. Looked for more black emb. thread, finally found some in family room. Worked on pig all afternoon, went out & measured oil. Over ¼ tank now so better call Ted in morning so they can straighten it up. Linda & Meg came & got raspberries & cranberry, a long haired yellow kitty was out in front & I think he’s a stray. Put some food out for him, then when he stayed around put a box w/a rug in it on front porch for him. Just couldn’t let him stay out there with no protection. Got paper in, Meg brought mail. Fixed supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Cold again tonight. To bed at 12:15. 8° on therm.

Wednesday, December 28, 1988: Sam woke me about 6:00, couldn’t go back to sleep. Got up about 7:30, called Ted about oil tank. Said he’d try & get up today but don’t think he did, furnace went off during A.M. Called Ted & he said to try reset, I did & it started right off. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Finished getting ready & went downtown about 1:00. Went to M&W, P.W. Drug, Bank & Paul’s for groc. Got home about 4:45. Put away groc., got supper. Read paper, watched TV. Watched VCR, worked on pig. Down to 0° again tonight. Yellow kitty gone this morning & haven’t seen him all day. Also, got pcs. of 2X4s ready for oil barrel & unwired gate this A.M. To bed at 12:20.

Thursday, December 29, 1988: Woke at 7:30, got up & turned up heat. Watched VCR until about 9:00, got dressed. Put away Xmas paper, bows, etc., dusted & cleaned blue bedroom. Cleaned hall, also bath. Had breakfast, started to snow. Snowed all day & still at it. At least it’s a little warmer, about 19°. Fixed Spic & Span & washed S.S. above stove, also cupboards, etc. Then washed shelf, salt & peppers, etc. Water really black. Went out to get mail & paper, little yellow cat here again. Fed him & fixed bed w/heating pad but he didn’t stay so I pulled the plug for tonight. Paul, Mike & Cindy here and shovelled walks & drive but now they’re all full again. They all went to Bogus today – Paul, Nancy, Mike, Cindy, Linda, Matt, Megan & Paula. Guess they had a good time. I got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:07.

Friday, December 30, 1988: Woke about 6:30, got up & fed Sam. Back to bed, read a little & then fell asleep. Got up about 8:00, watched VCR a while. Dressed, started cleaning in fam. room. Swept some snow off patio, Sam went out several times. Warmer today, got up to about 32° this afternoon. Had breakfast, swept a little more of sidewalk. Ted & Joe came up & fixed oil barrel, I called for oil. Paul cleaned off sidewalks & drive, then it started to snow again! Nancy had Paul come over & fix leak under bar sink, I finished clean fam. room. Had lunch, cleaned small bath. Got in mail & paper, turned on heating pad for little yellow cat. Hope it’s safe. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Linda called, I washed cauliflower & broccoli. To bed at 12:11.

NEW YEAR’S EVE. Saturday, December 31, 1988: Woke at 6:30, back to bed & finally slept a little. Got up about 7:30, turned up heat. Made bed, straightened up bedroom. Also bath, put clothes away. Cleaned in living room, swept snow by back door. Carried Xmas stuff downstairs, had breakfast. Swept some more snow, found Discover bill so pd. it. Got new one today, cleaned off dining table. Cooked shells, set Jello. Sliced ham, cooked turkey. Washed dishes, ran dishwasher. Vacuumed kitchen, then dining room. Cleaned off kitchen table, sliced turkey. Washed & changed clothes, awfully tired. Rested a little. Kids started coming about 8:15-8:30. Oh, yes, cleaned vegetables & cut up, oil man came & filled barrel today so I can quit worrying about running out of oil. After kids came, set out snacks, cheese, crax, dips. Paula & Jim didn’t bring doggies but Carla & Bill did & they got along fine w/Sam. He’s just a little wary but no fight. Worked on jigsaw puzzles a while, then finished up salads. Ate right after midnight. After everyone left, I put stuff away. Worked on puzzle a little. To bed at 3:10. Happy New Year!

Tuesday, December 1, 1987: Woke about 4:30, never did go back to sleep. Read papers till 7:00, then watched VCR until about 9:00. Raining & had a lot to do so didn’t walk this morning. Took shower, dressed. Had breakfast, cleaned off dining room table. Watered flowers in family room, believe other amaryllis is also getting a bud. Cleaned a little in blue bedroom, still didn’t get finished. Made bed, vacuumed dining room floor, kitchen, bath, hall. Had lunch, cleaned off kitchen table. Wednesday, December 2, 1987: Woke about 3:30, then again at 7:40. Got up & watched VCR till 8:30, got dressed. Went for my walk, rained a little but not too cold. Changed shoes, went down & brought up X mas wreath & cards. Put straw wreath out on iron column, had breakfast. Got card ready for Jean & Derrick, wrote note & mailed it. Also ordered new TV pole. Went in & finished clean front bedroom, had a bite of lunch. Sorted cards, looked at [Nap.?] ads. Wrote to Elaine, got card ready & wrapped tile. Remembered choir practise so got ready, fixed supper. Got in mail & paper, looked at mail. Did dishes, then went to choir practise. Got home little after 9:00, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Thursday, December 3, 1987: Went to sleep w/light on, woke several times but not enough to turn light off. Woke finally at 7:40, got up & watched VCR. About 10:00 got washed & dressed, had breakfast. Got list ready, left for town about 12:30. Stopped at Gem In & Out & had a chicken sandwich (real good), then to P.W. Drug. Saw Nancy & Ruth there. Went to Coast to Coast & got card table, then to Bonanza & got suit for Cindy & running clothes for Ted. Went to Pauls for groceries, then home. Gray & cloudy all day, but not very cold – 57°. Put away groc., then watched VCR. Made stew for supper so kind of late eating. Watched VCR several times, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper & soaked my feet while I watched TV. Judy called tonite. To bed at 12:20.

Friday, December 4, 1987: Woke about 7:20, got up & watched VCR until 9:00. Dressed, went for my walk. Saw Linda & Marty, really windy today but not too cold. Got out birthday card for Leona & started a letter. Had breakfast, then finished & mailed letter. Paid some bills, went down & brought up Xmas decorations. Put ribbon & garland on light pole, put lights on iron work. Put up some on inside but didn’t get finished. Had lunch, took boxes back downstairs. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Emptied dishwasher, watched VCR. Read paper, watched TV. Sorted papers in basket, paid more bills. To bed at 12:40.

Saturday, December 5, 1987: Woke about 6:30, back to sleep until 7:45. Got up & watched VCR until about 9:00. Dressed, went for my walk, saw Ted & Marty. Warm & sunny again this morning. Fixed bird feeder when I got home, filled both. Judy called, I called Paula. Had breakfast, put up hair. Baked cake, put up more X mas decorations. Partly cleaned off dining table. Got supper, did dishes. Iced & decorated cake, worked on stuff on table. Paid some bills & made some donations, talked to Linda. Looked for Xmas presents in Best catalog. Watched TV. To bed at 12:15.

Sunday, December 6, 1987: Woke about 7:00, got up & watched VCR until 8:00. Had breakfast, washed & dressed. Got ready to go to church, choir sang this morning & had coffee hour after church. Stopped at Farmer Jacks for milk, etc., on way home, wind really blowing. Watched painting show when I got home, changed clothes. Called Paula, then went over to Boise about 3:30, worked X-word before I went. Stopped at Best Co on way in & got 3 gifts, also found some 8-hr. tapes finally. Got to Paulas about 5:00, forgot ice cream so we went to store & got some. Carla & Bill came about 5:00, the rest about 6:30. Finally went to eat, then back to Paulas for the cake & ice cream. Got home about 10:30. Carried in stuff. Looked at paper a little, to bed at 12:00.

Monday, December 7, 1987: Woke at 7:00, got up & watched VCR until about 8:30. Dressed, went for my walk. Didn’t see Linda & Marty. Went out & tied down blue tarp in dog kennel, wind had loosened it & blew it over the fence. Filled sunflower feeder, then had breakfast. Watered & fertilized all flowers, made double batch of fudge. Think I’ll try some rocky road fudge again. Put up more lights – tiny outdoor ones on trees in front, those on mantel. Linda called about going to the circle meeting, I had forgotten but decided to go. Took a shower & got ready, had a can of soup. Judy called just as Linda came, we left about 7:15. Was a lot of fun. Party was at Leah Wells’ house. Got home about 11:00. Looked at mail. To bed at about 1:00.

Tuesday, December 8, 1987: Woke at 7:40, got up & watched VCR until 8:40. Dressed, went for my walk. Cold & windy, met Linda & Marty when I was just about to my street. Put out garbage, put up lights around mirror in family room. Had breakfast, got out cards & started addressing them. Had lunch, back to cards. Helen (Avon lady) came, back to cards after she left. Didn’t quite get through addressing cards, put candy out on paper to harden. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Read funnies, etc., worked puzzle. To bed at 12:15.

Wednesday, December 9, 1987: Woke at 7:40, worked X-word. Got up about 8:30, watched VCR a while. Had breakfast, got lists, etc., ready for town. Wrote letter to Jane & wrapped gift for her, wrote note & sent watch back. Raining & snowing this morning. Washed & dressed, got ready to go downtown. Paula called, still having trouble with her throat. Left for town about 1:30, had a sandwich before I left. Went to P.W. Drug, then to Bank, to Post Office, then out to Shopko. Stopped and got order at Sears, to M&W lot for Xmas tree (only 9.95 w/coupon), then to Pauls for a few groceries. Took Xmas decorations to cemetery on way downtown, got home about 5:30. Put away groc., fixed supper. – TV Dinner. Cleared up table, watched TV a little. Linda & Ted came to go to choir practise, home again about 9:00. Read paper, watched TV. Then watched VCR. To bed at 12:40.

Thursday, December 10, 1987: Woke at 6:45, tried but couldn’t go back to sleep. Got up & watched VCR until 8:45, dressed & went for my walk. Had been snowing but turned to rain, really rained hard during part of my walk. Never did see Linda & Marty. Filled bird feeders when I got home, started to work on cards. Had breakfast at 11:00, back to work on cards. Wrote letter to Rosie, had lunch. Spent rest of afternoon addressing cards, nearly finished. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes. Looked at mail & read paper, watched TV. Washed & put up hair about noon. To bed at 12:20.

Friday, December 11, 1987: Woke about 5:45, back to sleep until 8:08. Got up & watched VCR, then got dressed & went for my walk. Pretty cold (below 32°), never did see Linda & Marty. Filled bird feeders when I got home, sawed off end of X-mas tree & put stand on. Brought tree in, then had breakfast. Got down decorations, put cover on coffee table & moved flowers. Set up tree, poured boiling water in stand. Started working on greetings, mailed some. Had lunch, worked on greetings rest of afternoon. Got in mail & paper, had supper. Tested tree lights & put them on tree, put tinsel on. Did dishes, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:10.

Saturday, December 12, 1987: Woke about 4:30, back to sleep til 8:10. Got up & watched VCR until 9:00, dressed & had breakfast. Went for my walk, pretty cold. Didn’t see Ted or Linda & Marty. When I got home got washed & changed, got ready to go to parade. Carla called, left about 11:30. Did my shopping at Kings, then watched parade. Never did see Cindy or Nancy, was a pretty nice parade. Went to Summers afterwards, then home. Saw Mrs. McBride, said they won’t allow dogs in cemetery any more. Had lunch, napped a little. Started to put ornaments on tree, Bill & Carla came. Nancy came over, also Cindy. She helped decorate tree & put icicles on. When we finished I said something about the floor being full of needles & tinsel so she went & got the carpet sweeper & cleaned the floor. After all left I had supper, did dishes. Watched TV, wrote to Mary. To bed at 12:30.

Sunday, December 13, 1987: Woke about 3:30, back to sleep until 7:00. Got up & watched VCR till 8:00, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to church. Left about 9:50, really cold & windy today. Had soup & sandwich luncheon after church today, don’t know what happened to Linda & Ted – they didn’t stay. Stopped for milk, etc., on way home, also Sears but they were closed. Got home about 12:50, changed clothes & watched painting program. Called Paula & she’s feeling better, still kind of hoarse tho’. Monday, December 14, 1987: Woke at 6:30, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR until 8:30. Dressed, wrapped pkgs. Called & talked to Linda, had breakfast. Got ready & went for my walk, pretty cold as wind was blowing – didn’t see anybody. Filled bird feeders when I got home, mailed letters & greetings. Made another batch of fudge, started working on letters. Had lunch, did some more cards and letters. Was cold all afternoon, probably got chilled on my walk. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Tuesday, December 15, 1987: Woke about 6:30, read papers & worked X-words but never did go back to sleep. Got up about 8:30, so cold & windy I never did go for my walk. Washed load of colored clothes & rayons. Filled bird feeders. Finished putting bows on Linda’s package, watered flowers. Grolite in family room going bad so had to turn it off. Had breakfast, made batch of Rocky Road Candy. Turned out real good. Worked on cards & letters, had lunch. Back to letters, Paula came so I had her cut my hair. She couldn’t stay long, I went back to my letters a little, then got supper. (Put up my hair) Just had TV dinner. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Birds surely worked on bird feeders today. To bed at 12:10.

Wednesday, December 16, 1987: Woke about 6:45, worked X-words until 8:30. Got up & finished letter, wrote another. Took shower, dressed. Had breakfast, got lists, etc., ready to go downtown. Finished getting ready, talked to Linda. Left about 1:30, mailed cards & filled feeders. Raw, cold wind blowing again today. Went to Bank, P.W. Drug, 88¢ Store, got order at Sears, then groc. at Pauls. Stopped at cemetery & wired bolt to Linda’s boquet so it would stay, also wired around mine so poinsettias would stay in urns. Then to Nancys but nobody home. Came home & put away groc., got supper. Took pkg. over to Nancys & got in paper. Worked on Globe X-word a little, Linda & Ted came & we went to choir practise. Mailed cards, etc., put away stuff & cleaned off dining table. Checked off 87 cards, wrapped calendars & got candy ready for Helen, Judy & Ted’s folks. Had lunch, filled sunflower feeder. Saturday, December 19, 1987: Called Aunt Esther and Aunt Katy today – so nice to talk to them. Woke at 6:30, back to sleep until 8:00. Got up, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, got ready to go to choir practise. Took 2 sacks of papers down, got out shortly before 12:00. Stopped at Farmer Jacks & got milk, ham, etc., stopped at Judys but she wasn’t home. Took some nuts & food up to squirrels, flowers staying in urns now & look so pretty. Had lunch when I got back, started to clean living room. Cindy came over & brought her picture, had a card from Lisa today. Cindy stayed a while, Nancy called & said were going over to decorate tree so went along. It looks so pretty & is really growing nice, about 8 in. this yr. Cut & put out candy when I got back, got supper. Did dishes, watched TV. Wrote letter & card to Lisa. Looked at little paper & worked X-word, vacuumed living room & part of kitchen after supper. Tried to call Paul but never did get him. To bed at 1:15.

Sunday, December 20, 1987: Woke at 7:15, had been dreaming about those songs for choir. Got up & did some chores. Had breakfast, then took shower & dressed. Got ready to go to church, called Paul & asked him for supper. Left about 10:00, practiced a little downstairs. Program went pretty good & guess our songs were O.K. too. Megan & Cindy did real well, could hear them real well upstairs. Had coffee & cookies after church, went by Judys & left starch & candy – she wasn’t home. Mailed cards downtown. Changed clothes, recorded Painting Programs. Made bed, vacuumed bath, hall, & in bedrooms a little. Finished vac. kitchen, did dining room, small bath & utility. Scrubbed potatoes, cleaned off kitchen table. Carla & Bill came, got rest of dinner stuff ready. Paul came over & we ate about 4:30. Steak, baked potatoes, carrots, lettuce, raspberries & whipped cream, cookies & coffee. Steak was real good. Carla & Bill left about 6:40 & Paul soon after. I did dishes, watched TV. Read paper, worked X-word. Bed at 12:30.

Monday, December 21, 1987: Woke at 7:55, alarm in other bedroom ringing so I got up & set out poinsettia. Judy called & I talked to her a while, then called Linda & we talked. Got dressed, phone rang again & it was Paula. Said she would make pies & cranberry for Xmas dinner. I washed & put up my hair, then had breakfast. Looked at papers, started wrapping presents. After a while I threw out nuts in back for squirrels, filled birdfeeders. Wrapped more presents, got them almost all done. Went out & got paper & mail, wheeled out garbage pail. Talked to Linda a little, sent card to Martha Weymouth. Wrapped rest of gifts I had here, got lists, etc., ready to go downtown. Took candy over to Dennetts, Michelle said Ila gone to Seattle. Went downtown about 12:30, to P.W. Drug, to Farmer Jack for milk, paid Oil bills, then to Paul’s for groc. Got gas on way home, put out some nuts for squirrels at cemetery & checked little tree. Fixed what the wind had blown down, put away groc. when I got home. Oh yes, forgot I stopped at K.F. Chicken & brought my supper home, heated it in microwave. Looked at paper & watched TV until kids came & we went to choir practise. We got home about 8:40, read paper & watched TV. Then watched VCR a while. To bed at 12:20.

Thursday, December 24, 1987: Woke at 7:20, got up & watched VCR a while. Got turkey in, dusted in fam. room. Listened to Xmas carols, Paula called. I called Linda, baked pecan pie. Had breakfast, cleaned & washed turkey & put it back outside. Cut up celery & onions, cooked so they’re ready for tomorrow. Ate a little lunch, sliced ham. Got in mail & paper, took shower. Got ready to go to church, had supper. Read paper & watched for Linda & Ted, services went pretty good. Got home about 9:00, watched rest of original Walton program “The Homecoming”, read paper. Wrapped rest of gifts, finished stockings. Watched VCR a little. To bed at 12:30.

Friday, December 25, 1987: CHRISTMAS DAY Woke at 6:30, read paper a little. Up about 9:00, dressed. Made bed, straightened up bedroom. Put away clothes, straightened bath. Turned up heat, turned on Xmas lights & unlocked doors. Mixed up dressing, stuffed turkey & put in oven. Also put in ham. Cindy, Paul & Ruth came, also Paula & Jim. Then Matt & Megan & finally Carla & Bill. Linda & Ted came & we started opening presents. Didn’t realize Nancy & Mike weren’t here yet – he had a nosebleed & Nancy’s Dad called. After we got through opening gifts, fixed breakfast. Did dishes & ran dishwasher, talked with Judy. Set out stuff for sandwiches, veggies & dips, etc. Soon was time to finish up supper, all turned out real good. Did load of dishes, put away food. Tried to read paper but got sleepy. Some played games, some worked on jigsaw. All left by about 10:30. I finished putting away food. To bed at 12:00. Really tired!

Saturday, December 26, 1987: Woke about 6:30, couldn’t go back to sleep so read a while & then slept till 8:30. Turned up heat & went back to bed, read till about 9:30. Got up & dressed, had breakfast. Started to straighten things up, Cindy & Ruthie came over & then Nancy, helped me to put dining table back in place. Brought Linda’s chairs up from downstairs, dusted them & cleaned off price stickers. Cleaned off tables in living room & put crocheted doilies from Judy on them under lamps, look so pretty; vacuumed living room, kitchen, bath, hall & in bedrooms a little. Got supper, did dishes – cleaned up a lot from yesterday. Soaked my feet for quite a while, surely makes them feel good. Read papers, watched TV. Trimmed turkey off bones & put away. To bed at 11:45. Oh yes, laid down about 2:30, read & slept a while. My back was awfully tired. Linda came on their way to Boise so I got up then but felt rested.

Sunday, December 27, 1987: Woke about 5:00, back to sleep. Woke again at 7:55, meant to get up but fell back asleep until 8:20. Got up, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to church. Linda & Ted greeters today. Went down & had coffee afterwards, then home. Stopped at cemetery for a little bit, got in papers. Changed clothes, watched Painting while I worked X-word. Napped a little, filled bird feeders. Got in turkey & cut off rest of meat, cooked bones to make broth for soup. Put meat on to cook, peeled potatoes. Made salad, supper nearly all ready before Carla & Bill came about 4:30. We ate about 5:00, sat & talked quite a while. They left about 7:00, I did dishes & ran dishwasher. Then soaked my feet while I watched TV & read papers. Judy called. To bed at 12:30.

Monday, December 28, 1987: Woke about 5:00, back to sleep until 7:30. Got up & watched VCR until 8:30, got dressed. Put TV pole together, cleaned & dusted TV. Moved it onto TV pole, had breakfast. Watered all flowers, went for my walk. Met Linda & Marty so walked back with them, didn’t quite make my full round. Checked through Xmas wrapping papers when I got home, filled bird feeders. Divided up turkey & dressing, emptied dishwasher & put away most of good dishes & silver. Sorted some papers, had lunch. At 4:00 took Nancy’s new coffee server & turkey, etc., down to her, then took Linda’s to her. Got home about 4:45, worked on bones in soup a little. Did dishes, read paper & watched TV. Looked at mail. Forgot to soak my feet, called Helen to thank her for the Vase. Napped a little after lunch. To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 29, 1987: Woke at 7:30, got up & watched VCR a while. Dressed, washed & put up hair. Had breakfast, took out garbage & filled bird feeder. Took rest of turkey bones out of soup, cooked barley & lentils, etc. Fixed vegetables to put in, cooked all – got done about 5:00. Got in mail & paper, driveway really slick – had snow off & on. Checked off rest of Xmas cards, sent note to Walthalls. Cindy over most of afternoon to practise piano, played with Barbies. She plays so cute. Filled feeder again, had supper. Did dishes, cleaned up stove. Read paper, watched TV. Nancy, Ruth & Cindy came over, brought some fruit cake in a mug. Soaked my feet. To bed at 11:20. Want to go downtown tomorrow – Hope it’s not too slick!

Wednesday, December 30, 1987: Woke at 3:30, back to sleep. Woke again at 7:45, got up & watched VCR a while. About 9:00 called & talked to Linda, it was snowing. Took shower, dressed. Getting lighter so decided to go downtown, had breakfast. Got list, etc., ready, Cindy cleaned off the sidewalks & driveway. Took soup down to Nancy & to Linda so gave Cindy a dollar for shovelling snow. Went to Bank (cashed check for Mike), then got groc. at Paul’s. Stopped at cemetery on way home, poinsettias & little tree looked so pretty full of snow. Put away groc. when I got home, filled bird feeders on way down. Worked on Globe X-word, got sleepy so put my head down & took nap. Cleaned & cut up celery, carrots, broccoli & cauliflower, had supper. Did dishes, sliced ham. Finished X-word, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:35.

Thursday, December 31, 1987: Last day of the year! Woke at 7:20, got up & watched VCR till about 9:00. Dressed, made bed. Vacuumed hall, bath, into bedrooms, also living room & kitchen. Swept snow & leaves off part of patio, also front porch & walks. Vacuumed dining room, small bath & family room. Set up card tables, got up New Years horns, etc. Nancy came over for salad makings, I cooked macaroni & made salad. Got ham in & wrapped it, cleaned off table. Ate little supper. Set out dips, vegetables, olives, crax, cheese, washed & changed clothes. Carla, Bill & dogs came – she is wearing a shoe now. Mike came & brought computer, pretty soon Ruth, Cindy & Paul came & then Nancy. Meg came & then Matt, Paula & Jim about 8:45. After a little while he went down & got Judy. Then Linda & Ted came. We drank a little wine was all. Boys played w/computer, others worked on jigsaw puzzle. I read paper & watched T.V. Blew horns & threw streamers at midnight, then got lunch on table. Carla & Bill left after we ate, then pretty soon Jim, Paula & Judy. Ruth left, then Paul. Pretty soon Nancy & kids, later on Linda, Ted & kids. Matt left his computer here, I cleared up food & mess – Linda helped before they left. I worked on jigsaw a little, think I found one piece. To bed at 4:10.

5 Tbsp. powdered sugar.
Mix together & press into pie or cake pan 8×8. Bake 15 min. at 350°

Monday, December 1, 1986: Woke early several times but went back to sleep. Finally got up at 7:20, watched VCR. Got dressed about 8:30, went for my walk. Was pretty cold – 22° in Boise. When I got home went down & emptied cat box, refilled it. Washed load of colored polyesters, dried part. Folded clothes in dryer, put away. Moved winter clothes out of closet, put pop in refrig. Sewed button on my winter coat, baked cake for Mike’s birthday. Had lunch, cleaned stuff off dining table. Dried part of poly. load of clothes, cleaned off kitchen table. Got in & looked at mail. When I got back wash load of dark colored clothes, dried rest of lt. coloreds. Folded some & put away. (Had brkfst.) Vacuumed up litter in basement. Got out some Xmas decor., Can’t find outdoor lights. Washed another load of lt. colored rayons, dried dark colored ones. Had lunch, got in & looked at mail. Wrote letter to Alice & Al. Cindy over several times this afternoon. Water heater leaked a little again today, Judy called tonight. Goes up for pill in morning. Got supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:20.

Wednesday, December 3, 1986: Woke about 3:30, back to sleep until 7:00. Got up & watched VCR, dressed about 9:00 & went for walk – still cold. Fed the kitty today, he was there at the curve of the road & came after I left & boy, did he eat! When I got home I dried rest of rayons, washed white rayons. Did some sewing, had breakfast. Washed, brushed teeth & hair, paid some bills, taxes, etc. Looked at today’s mail, had lunch. Also some old mail, folded & put away clothes. Changed clothes & got ready to go to choir practice. Got supper, Linda & Ted came & we went to practice. Had some hard songs tonight. Got home about 8:45. Watched TV & read paper. To bed at 11:30.

Thursday, December 4, 1986: Woke about 3:00, back to sleep until 5:00. Got up, then back to sleep again until 7:00. Got up & watched VCR until 9:00, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, got stuff ready to go downtown. Left about 1:00, went to P.W. Drug, saw Linda there. Then went to Kings, to Rettigs & signed deed, then to Pauls for groc. & home. Drove over to cemetery & fed kitty, came home & put away groc. Got in mail & looked at it, got sleepy so put my head down & slept about 20 min. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Put away rest of purchases. To bed at 11:45.

Friday, December 5, 1986: Woke several times early, back to sleep until 6:00. Got up & watched VCR. Judy called about 8:00 & talked for quite a while. Got dressed about 9:00, folded & put away some clothes. Put up lights, bells, ribbon on light & garland on post – kind of cold. Had breakfast, then went for my walk. Took Xmas wreaths & picks over to cemetery, put out kitty food again. Saw a big yellow kitty over there today, kind of rainy but not quite so cold. Washed & put up my hair when I got back, put up decorations in livingroom. Had lunch, brought up rest of decorations & put up lights on mantel, around mirror, etc., more decorations. Still have more to do. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45. Took short nap again today, 15 or 20 minutes.

Saturday, December 6, 1986: Forgot to write last night – Got up about 7:00, watched VCR. Got dressed about 9:00, put up outside lights & bells, put garland around post. Put up more decor. in house, talked to Linda, Carla, Velda called. Had breakfast about noon, washed & put up hair. Rinsed white clothes out of soak, then washed load. Dried part. Baked Matt’s cake, got his card ready. Put head down & took about 15 min. nap. Took shower, got ready to go to Boise. Left shortly after 6:00, went to Red Robin to eat. Then to Paula & Jims for ice cream & cake. Got home about 11:00. To bed soon after.

Sunday, December 7, 1986: Woke about 5:30, back to sleep until 7:50. Got up, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to church. Sang with choir, 45th anniv. of establishment of Lutheran church in Caldwell today. Talked to Mrs. Helzer at Coffee Hour today, she’s doing pretty well. Stopped at Safeway on way home, no Acidophilus milk. Got ice cream. Went in to 88¢ store but blouse I liked was gone. Got home about 1:30. Changed clothes, Nancy came over & did the cake so I could go over with her & Linda to see the house we built on Rimview. They really changed it on the inside. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes. Nancy vacuumed kitchen. Carla came & went over to the house with us. Then she took the dogs over for a walk & I fixed chicken & dressing. Was pretty good. Linda, Ted & kids & Nancy & kids came over & we had ice cream & cake for Matt’s b’day. Carla left & then Linda & Nancy took Megan & Mike down to youth meeting. After a while Ted & Matt left & Cindy stayed w/me. Judy called. After they all went home, I read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Monday, December 8, 1986: Woke at 6:45 – up at 7:00. Watched VCR till 9:00, dressed & went for walk. Pretty cold but not so bad as tonight. Kitty started to follow me when I fed him today, now what am I going to do? Also Pete at Sam’s window this morning, chased him away because I can’t have him coming in. Changed shoes, etc., when I got home, had breakfast. Went out to freezer & found some turkey for Sam, also brought in some old stuff to fix – if it’s not good, I’ll give it to the pets. Washed dishes, had lunch. Started addressing greetings, need to get some more cards. Oh, yes, watered all flowers in A.M., really needed it. Other amaryllis starting to open up. Mailed letters, got in mail & paper. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:10. Worked part of Globe X-word.

Tuesday, December 9, 1986: Woke about 6:45, back to sleep until 8:45. Got up, dressed. So cold I didn’t go for walk today, walked 2500 steps on trampoline. Started writing notes in Xmas cards, have nieces & nephews all done. Had breakfast at 11:00, lunch about 2:00. Drove over to cemetery about 4:15 & fed kitty, he was waiting. Don’t know if I’ll go to Airport with Nancy tomorrow or not, Should stay home & work on letters. Got supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Got in mail & papers in afternoon; looked at mail, read paper, & watched TV. To bed at 11:50.

Wednesday, December 10, 1986: Woke about 3:30, read a little & went back to sleep until 7:45. Got up, washed & dressed. Talked to Linda, Nancy came over. Said they were going to stop at Gr. Western so I decided to go along to get Paul after all. Dried rest of wh. clothes, folded some & put away. Had breakfast, got ready to go to Boise. Nancy came about 12:15. We were at Gr. Western about an hour; I got Wok for Nancy & iron for Paula & Jim, add-on necklace for Meg and the [toc?] for Mike. Guess I’m nearly done with my gifts. We got home about 3:30, I went downtown (over to cemetery & fed kitty first) to Bank, Steunenberg Galleries for cards; Craft Corner for rose sprays, got my Xmas tree, then got gas & home. Brought in mail, fixed supper. Read paper & waited for Linda & Ted, went to choir practise. Finished reading paper when I got home, watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Thursday, December 11, 1986: (Finished sewing sleeves on blue jacket while I watched VCR.) Woke early, back to sleep. Woke again at 6:15, got up & watched VCR. Washed & dressed about 9:00, 1500 on trampoline. Stamped Xmas cards I have done, all ready to mail. Had breakfast, got list ready. Left about 1:00, went to UFF, Albertsons for groc., had lunch at Coffee Cup. Got a few things at Pauls, kitty food for Sam, then home. Took food over to cemetery for kitty on my way downtown, something going on over at the house on corner – men with guns hiding behind car & building – don’t know what it was. Put away groc., looked at mail. Worked on greetings, got in paper. Fixed salad for supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Curtis Hoffman called & we talked quite a while, he’s a real nice kid. To bed at 11:30.

Friday, December 12, 1986: Woke about 5:15, couldn’t go back to sleep so got up & watched VCR. Sorted letters & papers while I watched. About 9:00 got dressed, washed & put up hair. Put stamps & seals on greetings, sorted them. Finished addressing cards, wrote more letters. Had breakfast & lunch, forgot to go over & feed kitty today. Avon lady came, also Matt, Mike & Cindy to show me Matt’s new coat. Surely is pretty; they brought in my mail & paper. I gave their card to Cindy. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. Made a small batch of candy. To bed at 12:30.

Saturday, December 13, 1986: Woke about 5:30, read a little. Went back to sleep until 8:45. Got up & had breakfast, dressed. Sat down & wrote letters until about 11:30. Got ready to go to Parade. Found a good place to park on Cleveland across from Odd Fellows Hall; nice parade. Afterwards went to 88¢ Store and got a few more things. Tried to feed kitty at cemetery but the gate was locked so couldn’t get in, tried again about 4:30 but still locked. Mailed the greetings I have ready. Had lunch, wrote more letters. Snowed a little this afternoon but melted, talked to Paula this morning & Judy tonight. Had supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Wrote letters & watched TV. Watched a show after news so got late. To bed at 1:11. Never did get a shower. Snow on the ground now.

Sunday, December 14, 1986: Woke several times early, Sam finally woke me at 6:50. I fed her, then finished a letter until 8:00. Had breakfast, took shower & dressed. Got ready to go to church, a little snow & kind of slick out. Had soup and sandwich lunch after church. Paul, Ted, Matt & Mike came home with me; Girls all went carolling. I went over & fed kitty on way home, gate was open. Changed clothes, then got down decorations. Moved flowers, got in tree. Changed Sam’s litter box, got up tree stand. Nancy & Cindy came over so they helped me set up tree. Mike & Matt came over & we all decorated the tree after Carla got here. Boys mostly watched game, Seattle won! After they all left Carla & I went to eat, went to 88¢ store first but it just closed. Got milk at Safeway, then ate at Wendys. Carla left when we got home. I read paper & watched TV. Worked X-words. To bed at 11:45.

Monday, December 15, 1986: Woke about 6:30, got up about 7:00. Watched VCR a while, talked to Linda. Got dressed and went downtown, to King’s, Farm Store & then Bonanza. Found pretty much what I wanted, now only have Matt’s present to get yet. Got home at 11:00 (fed kitty when I got home & found him here on my driveway when I got here). Had breakfast, wrote letters, got in mail & paper. Put up new garland over front door, looked at mail. Addressed couple more cards, got supper. Read paper, watched TV. Did dishes. To bed at 11:30.

Tuesday, December 16, 1986: Woke at 6:10, got up & watched VCR. Linda called & after a while Judy. I washed & dressed, started writing letters. Cut candy & took it out of pans. Wrote more letters, had breakfast. Worked on cards & letters again, mailed some. Had lunch, back to letters. Got in mail & looked at it, hung new garland on front door. Put candy away in boxes, more letters – only have 2 more to go now. Got in paper, got supper. Did dishes, watched TV. Ran dishwasher, read paper. Got up some boxes for candy. To bed at 11:30.

Wednesday, December 17, 1986: Woke at 5:30. Couldn’t go back to sleep. Got up about 7:15 & watched VCR. About 8:15 got dressed, mailed cards. Put bows on front door garland, put little red balls on tiny trees in front. Got Judy’s package ready and wrapped. Started to clean in family room, ate breakfast. Watered flowers in fam. room, cleaned some more. Stopped & wrote letter to Helen. Ate lunch, got in & looked at mail. Put candy & calendar in boxes for Shaws. Finished cleaning in fam. room , put up lights around mirror. Filled big bird feeder, got ready to go to choir practice. Had supper, Linda & Ted came about 7:30. Got home from practice about 9:00. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:40.

Thursday, December 18, 1986: Woke early, went back to sleep. Woke again about 7:10, got up & turned up heat. Watched VCR, sorted papers till about 9:00. Washed & dressed, emptied dishwasher. Did dishes, wrapped packages for Shaws. Got groc. list ready, paid bills. Had breakfast, finished getting ready to go downtown. Left about 1:00, took holly to Nancy & food to cemetery for kitty. Stopped by Judys on the way down but she wasn’t home. Got groc. at Albertsons, mailed packages. Paid fuel bill, went to lawyers but he wasn’t there so I have to go back down in morning. Got groc. at Pauls, then back to 88¢ store for a few things. Stopped by Judys again but still not home, got home about 4:15. Put away all groc., got supper. Just doing dishes when sweeper salesman came. They were here for quite a while, want over $900.00 for that Kirby. It’s a nice sweeper tho! Watched TV & read paper after they left. To bed at 11:45.

Friday, December 19, 1986: Woke early, went back to sleep till about 7:45. Watched VCR a little. Washed face, dressed. Had breakfast, got ready to go down to Rettigs. Left about 9:40, stopped at Judys & left her gift, she gave me mine. Took her up to the Nursing Home, then went to Rettigs. He gave me the check and I took it up and deposited it so now the lot is gone. $5200.00. Got home shortly after 10:00, fed the kitty at the cemetery. Finished up last of cards, looked at yesterday’s mail. Paid some bills, watched VCR a little. Made a big recipe of fudge, started wrapping packages. Had to hunt for boxes. Had a sandwich, wrapped some more. Got supper, read paper. Watched TV. Didn’t do dishes. To bed at 11:10. Took short nap in P.M.

Saturday, December 20, 1986: Woke early, back to sleep until 7:50. Got up & watched VCR a while. Had breakfast, washed & put up hair. Dressed, wrapped packages. Fixed candy packages for Ila, Jordans, Dennetts & McBrides. Cindy came over and stayed all afternoon, Played with Barbie dolls and horses. Had lunch. I put away candy, made batch of butterscotch fudge. Cleaned drumsticks & cooked. Got supper, did dishes. Have pkgs. all wrapped except Megans. Talked to Paula today. To bed at 12:45.

Sunday, December 21, 1986: Woke about 6:50, got up & turned up heat. Went back to bed & read paper, worked X-word. Got up about 8:00 & had breakfast, took shower & dressed. Fixed melted choc. chips for candy, finished getting ready. Left for church about 5 till 10:00, took some canned goods & soap for Xmas box. Stopped at Safeway on way home, got dog & cat toys. Put out food for kitty at cemetery, changed clothes when I got home. Started stuff for supper. Carla finally came, then Shari called so she took her gift over. Nancy, Mike, Cindy & Megan came & were here for a while. When Carla got back we ate, then soon she left for home. I worked big X-word, watched TV. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Made pnut. butter fudge. Read paper a while. To bed at 12:15.

Monday, December 22, 1986: Mom’s Birthday Woke several times, got up about 7:00. Watched VCR a while. About 9:00 got dressed, cleaned small bath. Melted choc. chips & finished up peanut butter fudge, it’s real good. Made mint fudge, it’s quite a job crushing candy & messy, too. Should have used the blender I guess. Had breakfast. Wrapped little cars for Daniel, David & Christopher, took cards & candy to Jordans, McBrides, Ila & Dennetts. Got up boxes for pet gifts. Carried boxes from dining room out to utility, had lunch. Checked out small string of lights & put in front bedroom window. Changed bulbs in lights on mirror, wrapped part of pet gifts, have couple more to go. Emptied dishwasher, got in mail & paper. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned & vacuumed N. half of dining room. Shampooed that half of carpet, watched TV. To bed at 11:15. (Put my head down & took a little nap about 5:00 this P.M.

Tuesday, December 23, 1986: Woke at 4:30, read a little, then went back to sleep until 8:00. Got up & dressed. Straightened up bathroom, vacuumed rug I shampooed last night in dining room. Vacuumed kitchen, dusted living room. Started to vacuum livingroom but didn’t get quite finished. Had breakfast, made more candy. Cut up mint fudge & put away. Wrapped rest of gifts, put away wrapping paper, etc. had lunch. Washed dishes, went over & got the turkey & brought in mail & paper. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Vacuumed & dusted rest of dining room, shampooed rest of carpet. Cut candy in pcs., still soft so left it out. To bed at 12:10.

Wednesday, December 24, 1986: Woke at 6:30, read & worked X-words & napped a little. Got up about 8:00, dressed. Vacuumed dining room carpet, finished vacuuming livingroom. Carried wrapping stuff downstairs, swept stairs. Straightened up blue bedroom & dusted & vacuumed rug, also hall. Had breakfast, cleaned pink bath. Filled stockings & moved them into my room. Had lunch, vacuumed kitchen again. Cleaned rest of dining room. Nancy came over & took jello & set it for me. I got washed & ready to go to church, had supper. Just ready to go when Paula & Jim came & we shut the puppies in the back. Program at church was real good. When I got home stopped at Nancys a little, then came home. Let the doggies out the front because they wouldn’t go to the back door. When I went to bring them in Winston was under Jordan’s car & we couldn’t get him out. I finally called Paula at Marilyns and Jim, Bob & Christie came in. By that time, Winston had come out for Cindy, so Jim took them along. I changed clothes, fixed cranberry jelly. Sliced ham, did dishes, ran dishwasher, cleaned off table, wrapped Meg’s gift, washed up all dishes, put out candy & put the rest away. Put Sam downstairs, to bed at 2:00.

Thursday, December 25, 1986: Woke about 5:30, went back to sleep. 8:30 when I woke up again, got up & soon Paula got up too. After a while Nancy & kids came over, later on Paul came. Matt & Megan came & then Carla & Bill so we started opening gifts. Later on Linda & Ted came from church. We all had breakfast & then Paula & I worked on the turkey & got it in the oven about 11:30. Watched TV, read paper, etc., about 3:30 peeled potatoes & finished up supper. Was very good. Afterwards, cleared up & ran one load of dishes. Carla & Bill left, then Paula & Jim. Linda, Ted & kids a little later & then Nancy & kids. Paul left I guess soon after Carla & Bill. Sam was so glad to get to come back upstairs. Straightened up house a little, put away food. Emptied dishwasher & put away good dishes, glasses & silverware. Watched TV. Was tired so left the kitchen a mess & went to bed at 12:00. Got slippers, scissors set – Paula; wall decor. – Linda; games – Carla; microwave dishes – Paul.

Friday, December 26, 1986: Woke at 6:50, back to bed. Read & dozed a little, phone rang about 7:30 but quit just as I got there. Judy called later so may have been her. Got up about 9:00, straightened up living room. Got in turkey, sliced off bone. Cooked bones for soup. Fixed up shares of leftovers for Linda, Nancy & Carla. Had breakfast, sorted through wrappings & put sacks out in front. Snacked on candy, peanuts, turkey, etc. Meg & Cindy came over to play & then Mike for a while. Talked to Nancy, Linda & Carla. Did dishes, got supper. Then did dishes again & ran dishwasher. Read paper & watched TV. Checked off rest of envelopes on Xmas list. To bed at 11:11.

Saturday, December 27, 1986: Woke at 6:15, went back to sleep & was 8:45 when I woke again. Felt real good until Helen McBride called & told me Donnie Jordan was killed last night. Car went out of control and they hit an empty trailer at the Evergreen Court, car exploded and burned. It’s so awful. I emptied dishwasher & put away good dishes, then cooked macaroni for shrimp salad to take over to Jordans. Had breakfast about 12:00. Earlier called Linda & Carla to tell them about Donnie, Nancy at Lindas. Took shower & dressed, took salad over and talked to Jan a little. Nancy came & borrowed some rice. I washed & put up hair, dried hair & read Xmas paper. Napped a little. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned off rest of stove, looks much better now. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Called Linda tonight, they went to Paulas this afternoon & got pretty foggy tonight but they got home O.K.

Sunday, December 28, 1986: Woke at 6:50, worked X-words & dozed a little. Got up at 8:10, had breakfast. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to church. Not very foggy this morning. Hensens had Coffee hr. after church today & didn’t know it until they saw the bulletin, I guess. Stopped at Safeway on way home & got milk, also ham and some ½ price Xmas & Thanksgiving items. Changed clothes, soon after I got home Linda & Megan came & she gave me her Xmas present she made for me. It is very pretty – embroidered “I LOVE YOU, GRANDMA” in turquoise w/a wooden hoop & lace ruffle. Think I’ll put it in the family room. Cindy came over & she & Megan played. Linda went home. Soon after that Carla came & then Nancy. Carla took Brandy for a walk, & Nancy left. When Carla got back, I fixed supper, kids left about 5:00. Carla left about 6:00, I did dishes. Worked X-word, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 11:55.

Monday, December 29, 1986: Woke early, back to sleep until 8:30. Got up & dressed, straightened & vacuumed family room. Had breakfast, looked at old mail. Carried boxes, stockings, etc., downstairs, changed litter box. Watered flowers in family room & dining room, got in mail. Looked at mail, put together new book rack. Had lunch, vacuumed sm. bath & dining room. Cindy called & asked if they could stay all night…. Got supper, did dishes. Kids came, wanted to play “Murder, She Wrote” so Linda stayed a while. Quit playing soon after 10:00; to bed at 11:15.

Tuesday, December 30, 1986: Woke about 4:30, back to sleep soundly till 8:45. Got up & Cindy soon awake, she woke Mike. I watered rest of flowers, rest of kids woke up. We played a game of Wheel of Fortune – Matt won – it’s fun. Had waffles for breakfast, then got dressed & Linda & Nancy took them to Pizza Hut for lunch. After they left, I got washed & dressed, had breakfast. Got my groc. list ready, got ready to go to funeral. It surely was cold standing out there, Donny is buried right near Mr. Dennett, overlooking the river. Carla came & Nancy, Mike & I rode over with her. Linda & Matt drove over. Cindy & Megan were gone when I got home but came back & were here when I went downtown. Changed clothes & left about 3:30, got groc. at Pauls. Went to Craft Corner but found no New Years stuff there, then to Kings & got some flowers. More groc. at Safeway, confetti & streamers at 88¢ store, stopped at liquor store, then home. Getting pretty foggy. Got home at 6:00, put away groc. Got supper, cleared up. Looked at mail, read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:06.

Wednesday, December 31, 1986: Woke about 7:00, read & didn’t get up till about 8:30. Dressed, started cleaning . Vacuumed whole house, had breakfast at 11:00. After I finished cleaning worked on food. Nancy & Cindy came just as I finished cleaning & Cindy stayed while Nancy went downtown. Then she stayed for a while after Nancy got home. I made mac. & shrimp salad, sliced ham, made both dips, fixed vegetables. Never did eat any lunch. Started snowing about middle of afternoon so I swept path to mailbox, swept porch & both sidewalks, got in mail & paper. Had can of soup for supper. Megan & Matt came about 7:00, then Mike & Cindy. Paul came about 7:30. Paula & Jim about 8:30, then Carla, Nancy, then Linda & Ted from church. We played cards & worked jigsaw puzzle. Nancy has cold so didn’t feel very well. Carla so tired she slept nearly all evening. Ate lunch about 2:00, kids went home. Paula helped me clear up & put things away. To bed at 3:30.

Sunday, December 1, 1985: Mike’s Birthday Woke at 4:15, stopped snowing. Back to sleep until 8:20, turned up heat. Back to bed again, read papers until 9:45. Washed & dressed, made bed. Dressed up & went out, swept sidewalks. Love to watch the birds at the feeders. Went out & put plastic on top of old dishwasher, got in papers. Worked Xword in TV Guide, had breakfast. Worked big X-word, looked at paper. Carla called, not coming over because of weather – snowing again. Snowed off & on all day. Fixed stuff for supper, got ready to go over to Nancy’s for cake & ice cream. Just gave Mike money as I didn’t know what to get him. Paula & Jim came over, also Linda, Ted & kids. We played Trivial Pursuit for a while, then Paula & Jim went home. I left about 6:45. Fixed my supper, did dishes. Ran dishwasher, went downstairs to check on furnace – found water leaking from dishwasher and also water heater. Darn! Played solitaire a little, watched TV. Watched VCR. To bed at ____

Monday, December 2, 1985: Woke at 7:50, turned up heat, then watched “Trapper John” on VCR. At 9:00, dressed, made bed. Called Nancy & told them about water heater & dish washer leaking. Had breakfast, talked to Linda. Shovelled snow path to mailbox & sidewalks, much warmer & rained off & on today – snow melting. Vacuumed hall & bath, also livingroom. Vacuumed kitchen, end of dining room & sm. bath. Had lunch, looked through sale circulars. Paula called in A.M. Found foam, rubber stripping so put it on furnace door – just right amount & it seems to work O.K. – lots quieter. Now if it will just stay closed. Got in mail & paper, got supper. Looked at mail, did dishes. Watched TV, looked through catalogs. To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 3, 1985: Woke at 4:20, back to sleep until 8:15. Turned up heat, back to bed & read a little while. Remembered I didn’t put out garbage so went out in housecoat & did it. Not very cold & snow melting. Washed & dressed, made bed. Had breakfast, got out Xmas cards. Filled bird feeders, talked to Linda. Wrote letter to Jean & Derrick & got it ready to mail. Paul came over & worked on dishwasher, had to go down & get some copper tubing to fix drain. Seems to be O.K. now. Started letter to Leona. Called Deseret Ind. this morning & they came & got old dishwasher. Glad to see somebody still get some good out of it. Vacuumed family room. Found a small leak in family room again. Got supper, did dishes. Emptied out china cabinet, cleaned behind it. Dusted off top & shelves. Ran dishwasher, put glassware & dishes in. Watched TV, also VCR. To bed at 11:30. Called Carla tonite, asked her to get present for me.

Wednesday, December 4, 1985: Woke at 4:45, back to sleep until 7:25. Turned up heat, watched rest of “Spencer for Hire” on VCR. Dressed, talked to Linda. Checked & caught my mouse in garage, later on he got away. Darn! Had breakfast, talked to Mike; he didn’t feel good today so Nancy took him to the Dr. Feeling better by evening. Went out & shovelled snow off rest of driveway. Put away dishes in dishwasher, ran another load. Cleaned under china cabinet, emptied dishwasher again. Had lunch, put front back on “ [dishwasher]; no more leaks. Looked at mail & sale catalogs. Changed sheets on my bed, watered part of flowers. Fixed supper, did dishes. Washed stuff that couldn’t go in dishwasher, ran D.W. Read paper, watched TV. Watered more flowers. To bed at 11:45.

Thursday, December 5, 1985: Woke at 6:25, back to sleep until 8:15. Turned up heat, washed & dressed. Emptied dishwasher, talked to Mike & Nancy. He’s feeling much better. Called Rettig & got lot sale in motion. Had breakfast; got all stuff ready to go downtown (Today 1986 from World Book Ency. returned). Left for town at 1:00. Went to bank, P.O., P.W. Drug. Saw man from Ernst’s at P.O. so gave him check for fuel oil. Went to Kings but no place to park so went to Western Auto. Back to “ “ [Kings but] still “ “ “ “ [no place to park]. Got groceries at Pauls, then out to Madisons, Penneys & Ernsts. Went to Kings when I got back to town, then picked up dinner at Ky. Fried Chicken. Home at 6:00. Brought in pkgs., ate supper. Put away groceries, etc. Paid several bills. Read paper, watched TV. Watched VCR. To bed at 11:30.

Friday, December 6, 1985: Woke at 6:00, dozed a little. Got up at 7:45 & turned heat up. Watched VCR until 9:00. Talked to Linda & decided not to go to Boise with them. Had breakfast, dressed. Made bed, emptied W. basket. Had started snowing so had to sweep a path to the garbage pail. Mailed letters, started shopping Xmas catalogs for kids’ presents. Finally got it all figured out & M W order ready to mail. S.R. order ready to call in tomorrow. Went out & swept sidewalks and driveway, rained a little after snow stopped. Got in mail & later paper. Fixed supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Paula called, also Judy. Watched Webster on VCR. Took shower, cut toenails. To bed at 1:30. Paula & Jim bringing Buffy early in morning. Hope I’m awake.

Saturday, December 7, 1985: Matt’s Birthday Woke at 4:30, unlocked front door. Back to sleep until 8:05, Paula & Jim woke me bringing Buffy in. Got up & talked to them a little, then they left. Pretty icy out, they got stuck a little at the end of the drive. Came in & watched VCR a little, then washed & put up hair. Dressed, made bed. Dried hair, looked at catalogs. Called in order & found Meg’s loom was not available so have to look for something else. Sent MW order, just hope it all comes. Rained in morning, started snowing about 3:00. Snowed rest of afternoon. Folded greetings, started addressing envelopes. Got ready to go to supper for Matt’s birthday. Nancy called & said they were not going to Jade Gardens – too much snow. Went to Paul’s & had steaks, I took french fries, Linda brought salad, cake & ice cream. Steak was delicious. Got home about 10:15. Fed Sam & put her downstairs. Buffy out several times. Watched VCR – “Fall Guy.” To bed at 12:16.

Sunday, December 8, 1985: Woke at 7:25, turned up heat. Got up about 8:00, tried to call Judy but never could get her until about 4:00 P.M. Watched “Lady Blue,” then washed & dressed. Got in papers, had breakfast. Looked at IP-TV Guide, did dishes. Brought up Xmas decor. from basement, took down rest of Thanksgiving Decor. & put away. Put up bells, garland & bow on lamp post, also wreath outside. Put up quite a few things on inside. Measured out sugar, etc., for candy, Carla came. I called Leona this afternoon, says she is doing O.K. Marie walking w/walker now & at home. We got ready to go out for supper at Jade Gardens, snowed a little but not enough to keep us home. Carla left from there, we got home about 7:15. I finished big X-word, (hard one), & watched TV. Made large batch of candy – ½ w & ½ w/o nuts. Rinsed dishes & ran dishwasher. To bed at 12:30.

Monday, December 9, 1985: Woke at 7:50, turned up heat. Back to bed, read paper, etc. Linda called about 9:30 so got up, afterwards had breakfast. Dressed, watered violets. Cut candy & dumped out on paper to dry a little. Started working on greetings. Linda came over about 2:00, got box for gift, etc. I had lunch, did dishes. Worked on greetings again, took out garbage. Got package ready to mail to Shaws. Got supper, did dishes. Worked on greetings, watched TV. Watched “Love Boat” on VCR. To bed at      11.45.

Tuesday, December 10, 1985: Woke at 4:45, back to sleep until 8:10. Turned up heat, watched Cagney & Lacey on VCR. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Swept snow off sidewalk again. Linda called, going downtown this afternoon. Wrote letters with cards, Avon lady came. Linda came for my package, mailed a few cards. Had lunch, wrote letters again. Finished addressing cards, filled bird feeder. Wrote more letters, got supper. Did dishes, watched TV. Wrote more letters, got ready to go to Nampa with Paul. He came about 9:10, pretty cold out. Got to Nampa about 9:40, train came in about 10:20 so was a little late. Home about 11:00. Turned off VCR, got ready for bed. To bed at 11:45, watching Simon & Simon.

Wednesday, December 11, 1985: Woke about 6:10, back to sleep until 8:00. Turned up heat, watched Love Boat on VCR. Dressed, made bed. Nancy called about dinner for Lisa & John, decided to have it tomorrow night if possible. Worked on Xmas greetings & letters, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, wrote letters, etc. all day. Had lunch, pretty well along with cards. Got supper, Paula & Jim came just as I started (about 6:00). O.K. with them for tomorrow night. After supper did dishes, called Carla at 9:30. OK with her so won’t go downtown tomorrow. Worked on cards, watched TV. To bed at 11:00. Watching Hooker.

Thursday, December 12, 1985: Woke at 7:25, turned up heat. Watched “Equalizer” on VCR, washed & dressed. Made bed, dusted livingroom. Vacuumed livingroom, started on kitchen. Had breakfast, talked to Linda & Nancy. Finished vacuum kitchen, did bath & hall. Then dining room and small bath. Finished straighten up dining room, put meat on to cook. Had lunch, scrubbed potatoes. Fixed table, changed clothes & got cleaned up. Nancy & Mike came about 5:30. Put potatoes in to microwave, Paul, Lisa and John came, then Linda & Megan, Carla and finally Paula & Jim. We ate supper, then Linda & Nancy went to meeting. We loaded dishwasher & ran it. Visited a while. Ted & Matt came, had cake, etc. Paula & Jim left & soon Carla too. After everyone was gone I straightened up a little, then to bed at 11:30. Watching “Night Heat.”

Friday, December 13, 1985: Woke at 7:00, unlocked the front door and turned up heat. Back to bed, about 7:30 Mike came and picked up Matt’s Algebra paper. I got up about 9:45. Had breakfast, dressed. Got stuff ready to go downtown. Left about 12:15, took Xmas wreaths over to cemetery. Went to Bank, got groc., to P.W. Drug, ate at Coffee Cup before I shopped. Went out and got Christmas tree, stopped at Sears & got order, then to Kings & Summers. Got gas on the way home, got home about 4:30. Put away groc., got supper. Emptied dishwasher, did dishes and cleaned up kitchen. Judy called. Took shower, watched A.W. on VCR. To bed at   1:30. 

Saturday, December 14, 1985: Woke at 2:30, back to sleep until 7:40. Turned up heat, watched VCR (Webster & Benson) but wasn’t recorded good. Don’t know what was wrong. Washed & put up hair, dressed. Had breakfast, did dishes. Did a couple of greetings but can’t find the rest, don’t know if I put them away somewhere or if I accidentally mailed them. Talked to Linda, called P.O. and they said they would probably mail cards & then charge postage on other end. Wrote to Ann & Mary, filled bird feeders. Got supper, did dishes. Watched TV, put up Xmas tree. Moved all flowers, watered some. Tested lights, put them on tree. Put on tinsel garlands, also one set of orns. Watched VCR (rest of Hee-haw & Fall Guy). To bed at 1:10.

Sunday, December 15, 1985: Woke at 7:40, turned up heat. Watched “Lady Blue” on VCR, washed & dressed. Went out & got papers, had breakfast. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Read I-P/TV Guide, worked on a few letters & cards. Finished putting ornaments on tree, put lights on mirror & mantel. Carla came, has a sore shoulder. Nancy & kids went over & trimmed tree at cemetery, so cold Carla & I didn’t go. I fixed supper & we ate. Afterwards Carla took Mike & Matt shopping, I cleared up & did dishes. Put icicles on tree, watched TV. We worked X-word when Carla came back, then she left. Judy called. I read paper & watched TV some more. Watched Perry Como in Hawaii on VCR. To bed at     12.00. Found out Lisa and John left yesterday.

Monday, December 16, 1985: Woke at 7:45, turned up heat & went back to bed for a while. Got up at 8:35, dressed. Started working on cards & letters. Had breakfast, talked to Linda (she can’t find my present…). Mailed cards, worked on letters again. Made bed, had lunch. Worked on letters some more, put up lights around mirror in family room. Put garbage can out in front. Fixed supper, did dishes. Called Velda & sure enough, she got my card with no name, no postage, etc. So embarrassing! Anyway now I know what happened to them. Now I have to write & explain to people what happened. Wrote more letters, watched TV till 10:30. Watched VCR – “Xmas in Washington.” To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 17, 1985: [“1903” underlined under notation printed in diary regarding first flight] Woke at 4:50, back to sleep until 8:45. Turned up heat, washed & dressed. Tried to call Linda but no answer. Paula called just as “Wheel” was on. After that I had breakfast, then worked on letters again. Had lunch, Linda came & brought Megs dolls. I wrapped them, then cut out & sewed jacket for Matt’s Mattie. Fixed supper, did dishes. Ran dishwasher, read paper. Watched TV, then went down & finished sewing jacket. To bed at 1:00.

Wednesday, December 18, 1985: Woke at 6:15, back to sleep until 8:45. Turned up heat, dressed. Made bed, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, then worked on letters some more. Paid some bills, had lunch. Got in mail, looked at greetings, etc. Cut out pants for Matt’s Cabbage Patch, sewed them and pocket on jacket. All finished. Got my supper, emptied dishwasher & did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Watched part of “Equalizer” on VCR. To bed at 12:45. Made a large batch of fudge – was going to make ½ w/ and ½ w/o nuts but forgot & put them in whole thing. Now I’ll have to make another batch w/o.

Thursday, December 19, 1985: Woke at 7:00, read a little. Got up, turned up heat. Watched rest of “Equalizer” on VCR. Washed, called Linda. Had breakfast, got stuff ready to go downtown. Left about noon, stopped at Nancys. She’s got her bedroom moved & they’re working on Cindy’s room. Really looks nice. Drove over to see little Xmas tree at cemetery, looks so pretty. Went to Pet Complex for catfood, paid oil bill, went to Shop & Linda & I put up decorations. From there got groc. at Albertsons, to P.W. Drug, then home about 4:00. Put away groc. & snacked a little, then went to Matt’s game. A team playing when I got there & won their game. (I dropped off Judy’s gift on the way down & she gave me mine). Mattie played 3 or 4 times and made a basket. They won their game, too. About 6:35 when I got home. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Watched part of AW on VCR, then “Night Heat.” To bed at 12:00.

Friday, December 20, 1985: Woke at 4:40, back to sleep until 8:45. Turned up heat, washed face & dressed. Called Nancy and guess she, Linda, Paul & I are all going to lunch with Cindy. Principal said she thought we broke the record for relatives attending V.I.B. (very important beaver) day. Had coffee & started on letters. Left a little before 11:00. Sat at a table at front of lunchroom. Afterwards went out to Wilson school a little, then home. Made bed, changed clothes. Worked on letters a while, cut out o’alls. Went back to letters & finished them. Must call Helen tomorrow. Called MW in Portland and said there was around a $45.00 charge to my account so order must have been shipped. Surely hope it gets here in time. Got in mail & paper, filled bird feeder. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Took shower. To bed at 12:30.

Saturday, December 21, 1985: Woke at 4:50, read a little. Back to sleep until 7:50, turned up heat. Read until 8:45, washed & put up hair. Sewed on o’alls, had breakfast. Came up and wrapped pkgs. – candy for Montgomerys and Helen, mints for postman & paper boy, Carlas, Bills, and their big present. Got in mail & looked at cards. Went down & sewed on o’alls again. Getting them pretty well along, they are so cute. Got supper, did dishes. Made big batch of candy w/o nuts. Broke one of my pretty nugs from Nancy looking for vanilla. I’m going to glue it back together and use it for a flower pot. Worked on o’alls again & watched TV. Watered flowers in family room. To bed at 12:20. Mailed letters & swept snow from walks.

Sunday, December 22, 1985: Mom’s birthday Woke at 4:20, back to sleep until 8:15. Turned up heat, washed & dressed. Had toast & coffee, got ready to go to church. Got papers in, started to read IP-TV Guide. Nancy came about 10:00, we also picked up Paul. The children’s program was really good & the minister spoke on putting Christ back in Christmas. Had coffee & cookies downstairs after church, then went to Red Steer & had a Hamoneer & coffee. Got home about 1:30. Was reading rest of TV Guide when phone rang & it was Carla – her car conked out east of Middleton so I had to call Bill & then go out and get her. Poor little car looked so forlorn sitting there. Bill came soon after we got here so I went ahead and fixed supper. Finished about 5:00 and then they left. I cleared up a little, then went down & sewed on o’alls. Have 4 pr. finished except for a little hand sewing. Cleared rest of table, filled & ran dishwasher. Will have to do rest tomorrow. Watched TV. To bed at 1:20.

Monday, December 23, 1985: Woke about 2:30, back to sleep. Woke again at 6:30, read and dozed until 8:30. Have some bladder infection so didn’t feel very well; took Septra. Seems to help right away. Dressed, put away candy w/nuts. Cut other candy & put out to dry a little, fixed a box for Ida, she brought over something yesterday. Talked to Linda, had breakfast. Emptied dishwasher, rinsed dishes. Finished clean livingroom, vacuumed hall, bath, kitchen. Wrote letter to Helen & mailed it. Washed rayons, started wrapping gifts. Had lunch. Matt & Meg stopped to see the tree. Dried clothes, had supper. Did dishes, read paper, watched TV. Put white clothes to soak, watched Cagney & Lacey on VCR. To bed at 12:00. Filled bird feeders again tonite & put out garbage. Pkg. came from Leona today – candy. 

Tuesday, December 24, 1985: Day before Christmas. Woke about 2:30 and again about 4:30. Back to sleep until 7:50. Turned up heat, went back to bed a little while. Got up about 8:30, started working in fam. room. Dusted & vacuumed floor. Cleaned off dining table, had breakfast. Watered flowers in “ [dining] room, cleaned small bath. Dusted dining room, Wrapped rest of presents. MW order never did come so I had to go downtown and get something for Matt & Mike so they’d have presents. I’m sure mad at them. Wrapped those gifts, Mike & Cindy came over for a little bit. Got my supper, did dishes. Ran dishwasher, vacuumed rest of dining room. Washed white clothes today, also dried them. Washed load of dark col. clothes & Matt’s Cabbage Patch outfit. Dried all clothes. Paula & Jim came. I read paper & watched TV. Then I cleaned turkey and cut up celery and onions. Folded clothes on my bed. To bed at 12:50.

Wednesday, December 25, 1985: Christmas Woke several times in the night, then at 7:20 in A.M. Got up & turned up heat, back to bed till about 8:15. I started working on turkey, Paula & Jim & kids came over so we opened presents. Carla & Bill came about the time we started. I went back & got turkey in oven about 10:30. When Linda, Ted & kids got back from church we opened rest of gifts. Kids all played Tripoli, I laid down & took nap. Sure did feel good. Got up about 3:00 & peeled potatoes for supper. Finally got everything ready about 6:00, everything real good. Ran load of dishes in dishwasher, Carla & Bill left about 7:30. After a while Paula & Jim left, too, and then the rest about 9:00. I straightened things up some, put away food. Emptied dishwasher, read paper. Watched TV. To bed at 11:40.

Thursday, December 26, 1985: Woke at 4:10, again at 7:15. Turned up heat, back to bed. Nancy called to see if Cindy could stay with me, didn’t want to go shopping. We wove a pot holder with her new loom & she played with her Barbie doll and pony, etc. We had breakfast, I worked on putting away dishes, etc. Nancy called to ask if I wanted to go & have pizza with them for lunch. When we got back, I worked on my dress, sewed hems in o’alls and put Velcro on Mike’s o’alls. Filled bird feeder, got in paper. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned up stove, read paper. Cindy came over & got her horse & dolls she forgot. I watched TV. To bed at 11:20.

Friday, December 27, 1985: Woke about 4:15 and again at 7:15. Turned up heat, went back to bed and read. Went to sleep again until 8:40, felt real good. Dressed, had breakfast. Nancy called & said Rich & Sara were coming over with the baby, so I got ready to go over there. Cleaned stuff out of living room. Just started to vacuum when Nancy called so I went down. Their baby is just so cute, a real doll – William Richard. He just smiled at me when I talked to him. Linda came over and she held him for a long time. He just gurgled and talked to her. They went to the cemetery so I came home, just too cold to go over there. Had lunch, looked at mail & watched TV. Finished sewing VELCRO on Raphael’s pants. Watered flowers in livingroom & bedrooms. Vacuumed livingroom & part of kitchen, also bath & hall. Wrote letter to MW today & sent in rebate form for Food Processor. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper & watched TV. Cleaned off work table where Carla spilled coffee. Took shower. To bed at 1:50.

Saturday, December 28, 1985: Woke at 6:10, back to sleep until 7:40. Turned up heat, back to bed. Read a little, back to sleep until 8:40. Dressed, washed & put up hair. Had breakfast, talked to Paula. Talked to Linda, dried hair & read paper, also instructions on new dustbuster. Sorted through some papers & bows. Took trash out & got mail. Had a little lunch, looked at mail. Watched VCR a little. Got supper, did dishes. Read old papers, watched TV. To bed at 1:30.

Sunday, December 29, 1985: Woke at 7:11, turned up heat & got in papers. Read papers & went back to sleep. Woke at 9:45, read some more. Finally got up, washed & dressed. Had breakfast, read IP-TV Guide. Carla came kind of early, wanted to go out to the Mall to shop. Went to the Bon and found a red suit (beautiful), black suit (really nice, too), and a red blouse. Shopped some more and then went to JBs and had supper. Carla left soon after we got back. I watched TV and worked on tree ornament I got at Osco. Was 8.99 & got it for 2.23. Really pretty….To bed about 11:00.

Monday, December 30, 1985: Woke at 5:41, back to sleep….Slept a little, got up and had breakfast. Dressed and got ready to go downtown. When I went out to go down couldn’t get the garage door open, little wheel at top is off track. Guess I’ll have to call door co. to fix it. Called Linda & went downtown with her. Took Matt to B.B. practice, went to Bank. To Kings, Pauls for groc., to liquor store, then got Matt & home. Put away groc., took short nap. Paula called, then I got supper. Read paper, watched TV. Did dishes, watched VCR. To bed at    12.30.   

Tuesday, December 31, 1985: Woke at 7:45, turned up heat. Got up & dressed. Made bed, took garbage out to front. Snowing a little. Ordered lamp (MW), tag for Martin & RIM for snow. Called Ted about door opener but he didn’t know who to call so I decided on Sunrise Door Co. Said they would come up today. Vacuumed bath, hall, etc. Did livingroom & kitchen. Getting ready to eat breakfast when the they came to fix door. Took quite a while and cost $143.84 but I’m surely glad it is fixed. Vacuumed sm. bath, family room & dining room. Cooked macaroni, sliced ham. Soaked shrimp in ice water. Had a little lunch, Made salad, cleaned utility, filled bird feeders & hung them out.

Tuesday, December 1, 1981: Up at 9:00. Snowed a little last night. Washed & dressed, made bed. Paid MW bill. Ordered calendars, etc., from Sunset House. Got Dad’s lunch, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Talked to Linda & Paula. Cooked soupbones & made soup. Did misc. jobs. Got Susie’s Xmas card ready & wrote her a letter. Got supper, did dishes, played solitaire & beat all 4 ways. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:30.

Wednesday, December 2, 1981: Up at 9:00. Cloudy, not too cold. Dressed, emptied my suitcase, put up hair, ate breakfast, made bed. Got lunch, did dishes, ran dishwasher. Went out & put up Xmas lights since it wasn’t so cold. Wind started to blow and sprinkled a little but coming from N.E. so I finished anyway. Kind of cold by the time I got done. Also, planted my tulip bulbs from Mike in A.M. Really nice out then. Got supper, did dishes. Linda came over & brought Megan’s boot & I fixed it; also pockets on my blue coat. Made up deposit. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:15.

Thursday, December 3, 1981: Up at 8:15. Light sun, frosty. Washed & dressed. Had coffee & toast. Made bed. Got rest of stuff ready to go downtown. Left about noon. Went to banks (3). Took shoes in to shoe shop. Got copies of Ins. made at bookkeeper. Got pen at Summers. Ate lunch at Coffee Cup. Got groc. Paid bills, etc., at P.W. Drug. Got groc.,also orders at Sears & MW. Picked up Meg & took her to dancing. Got gas. Home about 4:30. Got supper. Kids came about 6:00. Put away groc. (Meg helped), cleared table. Played Password with kids. After they left, I read papers, did dishes, watched TV. Wrote letter to Leona. To bed about 1:10.

Friday, December 4, 1981: Up at 8:30. Cloudy. Dressed, made bed. Had breakfast. Cleaned livingroom, vacuumed kitchen. Got lunch, rinsed dishes. Started in cleaning dining room, didn’t get quite finished with it. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned off last work table. Worked on small el. burner, cleaning it up. Read paper, watched TV. Made coffee, put Sam to bed. To bed at 1:15. (Having Paul for supper tomorrow night). 

Saturday, December 5, 1981: Up at 8:45. Cloudy, not too cold. Dressed, made bed, had breakfast. Cleaned family room, small bath, finished dining room, vacuumed utility. Cleaned old bath & hall. Took shower & changed clothes, fixed face & hair. Put roast on. Baked brownies, fixed carrots & potatoes. Linda & kids came for a little bit. Fixed salad (mixed greens), set table. Had fruit & brownies for dessert. All turned out real good. Sat around table & watched TV after we ate. Paul left about 9:00 (going up to Spokane tomorrow). I did dishes, Dad not feeling very good so went to bed. Played a little solitaire – beat him all 4 ways. Read paper a little, watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Sunday, December 6, 1981: Cloudy, not very cold. Up at 8:45. Got breakfast. Cleared dishes. Washed & dressed, washed & put up hair. Got in chicken from freezer. Dried hair & worked X-word. Made bed, made salad for dinner. Washed load of work clothes. Mended my N. blue coat. Dried clothes. Washed load of colored & dried. Carla came about 5:00. I had supper ready so we ate. Carla wrapped her pkgs. & I wrapped Matt’s birthday gift. She left about 7:00. Took our presents over to Lindas. I did dishes, watched TV, wrote letter to Jean & Derrick. Put white clothes to soak. To bed at 1:15.

Got lunch, did dishes, ran dishwasher. Put up some more decorations. Had very sharp pain in my head on right side in back. Would shoot up into my right ear and sometimes behind the right eye. Got supper, did dishes. Made batch of marshmallow fudge. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:00. Called UPS & Dr’s office about bill from St. Lukes. Wrote to them as it must have been a mistake.

Wednesday, December 9, 1981: Up at 8:30. Cloudy & windy. Sun came out later on but kind of windy all day. Dressed, had breakfast. Made bed. Washed load of yellow clothes. Made another batch of fudge w/nuts. Got box in & packed gifts. Wrapped Mike’s present. Put in stocking stuffers. Also greetings for Jay & Shaws. Got lunch, did dishes, ran dishwasher. Put tablecloths back on dining room table. Got supper, did dishes, Linda came over & made out checks. I wrapped Carla’s gift. We put Linda’s gifts in box & finished packing it. After she left I finished dishes, made up deposit. Looked at paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:15.

Thursday, December 10, 1981: Up at 8:30. Light sun, not very cold. Washed & dressed, got ready to go downtown. Had coffee & toast. Finished getting deposits ready & box to mail. Left about 11:00 (made bed). Mailed Xmas box & bought tree. Went to banks, Kings, got shoes. Got groc., picked up Matt, went to P.W. Drug. Picked up Meg & took her to dancing (4:00). Paid shop water bill, etc., at City Hall. Got Meg at dancing. Kids came home with me for supper. Was kind of late. Linda & Ted came before we finished eating, about 6:40, stayed for a while, til about 8:00. They brought my tree. After they left I got in groceries & put them away. Did dishes, watched TV, read paper. To bed at 1:00.

Friday, December 11, 1981: Up at 9:00. Sunny & frosty. Got colder last nite. Dressed, made bed. Had breakfast. Washed load of dark colored clothes. Got lunch. Did dishes. Dried clothes, washed another load. Worked on Xmas greetings again. Have all addressed now. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. Dried clothes. To bed at 1:00.

Saturday, December 12, 1981: Up at 9:00. Light sun, frosty. Dressed, made bed. Had breakfast. Got cards ready to mail, those that I didn’t have to write letters in. After I mailed them, wrote more letters. Got darker & started snowing in afternoon. Snowed until about dark. Got supper, did dishes, read old papers, watched TV. To bed at 12:30.

Sunday, December 13, 1981: Up at 8:30. – Cloudy, not very cold. Snow still on ground but started melting, nearly gone by night. Got breakfast. Cleared up & did dishes. Worked X-word. Took shower, dressed. Made bed. Got down tree decorations. Put stand on tree. Brought card table in and vacuumed it, also floor where it stands. Set up tree & put on lights. Carla came so I made cherry pie & got supper. She worked on tree. After we ate we finished decorating the tree. Then she left. Was raining when she left. Linda brought over Paula’s wreath so Carla could take it back with her. After that, I did dishes, watched TV, played solitaire, read paper. Wrote letter to Rosie. To bed about 1:10.

Monday, December 14, 1981: Up at 8:30. Foggy, snow all gone. Dressed, had breakfast, made bed. Took out garbage, mailed letters. Wrote more letters, got lunch, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Wrote more letters. Got supper, did dishes. Worked on books – totals were off but had missed one charge & that was the amount. I was really glad. Watched TV, read papers, fixed Nancy’s knife block (glued pad on bottom). To bed at 1:15.  

Tuesday, December 15, 1981: Up at 9:15. Cloudy, raining, not too cold. Cleared up middle of morning, no more rain. Washed & dressed, got ready to go downtown. Wrapped Nancy’s gift & got ready to send by UPS. Mailed more greetings. Got lunch, tried to let Sandy & Tom out but they wouldn’t go. Brought garbage pails back to house. Finished getting ready to go downtown. Stopped & got gas & had air put in tire. Paid oil bill, went to Beauty College & got my hair shampooed, cut & set. Really looked nice. Mailed pkg., got groc. Home about 4:45. Got supper, did dishes. Finished up books, read papers. To bed at 1:10. (Put away groc.)  Diary getting thin – year about gone.

Wednesday, December 16, 1981: Up at 8:45. Sunny, not too cold. Dressed, made bed. Wrote letters, had breakfast, more letters. Got lunch, cleared up. Wrote more letters. Got supper, did dishes, Linda came to make out checks, helped me make my Xmas decorations from the greens I got from Matt. Looks real pretty. Read paper a little, watched TV. Dad going fishing tomorrow. To bed at 1:15. Sorted checks for deposit.

Thursday, December 17, 1981: Up at 8:20. Sunny, frosty. Washed & dressed for downtown. Had toast & coffee. Finished deposit, hung wreaths, made bed, got everything ready to go downtown. Hunted for IDS check & can’t find it. What a worry! Watered part of flowers. Dad gone fishing. Tire on car low again so took Linda’s. Went to banks, ate lunch, got groc., went to Sears, MW, 88¢ store, tel. co., got Matt. Then to P.W. Drug. Forgot my list so didn’t get everything there. Darn! Picked Megan up from Brownies & took her to dancing, then went home, unloaded & put away groc. Matt stayed with me. Linda came back & we picked up Meg. Ate sandwiches at Jacks, then went to Meg’s dance program. She is very good. Afterwards came home & Dad was here. Says he couldn’t see well enough to fish. Has eye Dr. appt. Monday after Christmas so hope he can help him. Linda & Matt stayed a while. After they left Dad soon went to bed. I read papers, watched TV, put away more stuff. Finished letter & went to bed – 12:00.

Friday, December 18, 1981: Up at 9:00. – Cloudy, not too cold. Dressed, made bed, had breakfast. Talked to Paula & Linda. Wrote letters. Got lunch. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Wrote more letters. Got supper, did dishes, read paper. Decorated Norfolk Island Pine. To bed at 12:45. Watched TV.

Saturday, December 19, 1981: Up at 8:45. Cloudy, raining. Rained all day. Ate brunch. Dressed, made bed, worked on letters – finished them!! Vacuumed kitchen, washed colored rayons, vacuumed hall & bath. Cleaned small bath. Got supper. Did dishes. Read old papers, watched TV. To bed at 12:45.

Sunday, December 20, 1981: Up at 9:00. Still cloudy – alternated sun & rain today. Got breakfast, cleared table & did dishes. Took shower, worked X-word, made bed, got in roast for supper – thought Paula & Jim might come but didn’t. Carla & Bill went to Jackpot this weekend so she won’t be over. Hung up clothes on pink bed, etc. Washed Carla’s old blanket, dried rayons. Started to wrap pkgs. when Matt & Meg came over. They stayed until about 4:30. I finished up supper. Did dishes, strung holly berries, marked sox, made another batch of fudge, read papers, watched TV. To bed at 1:15.

Monday, December 21, 1981: Up at 9:15. Raining again. Stopped, alt. sunny & cloudy, little colder. Dressed, had breakfast, made bed. Started wrapping pkgs. Talked to Linda, got lunch, did dishes. Took out garbage pails. Finished wrapping pkgs., did stockings. Got supper, did dishes, read paper, watched TV. Put Sam to bed, made coffee – usual routine. Worked a little on Meg’s boot. To bed at 1:00.

Tuesday, December 22, 1981: Up at 8:40. Clear, sunny & frosty. Little colder. Dressed, had breakfast, folded clothes downstairs, washed white rayons, talked to Paula, Linda & Carla. Got lunch, made bed. Cleaned in family room. Got supper, did dishes, read papers, watched TV. Put Sam to bed, made coffee, turned down heat, turned off lights. To bed at 12:45.

Wednesday, December 23, 1981: Up at 8:30. Sunny, cold & frosty. Washed & dressed for town. Linda came & brought Megan – Matt had to go to Dr. for tet. shot so came soon. Had breakfast. Made bed. Came back for kids. I got lunch, then got ready & went downtown to Blood Drawing – got my 4-gal. pin. Got work at bookkeeper, med. at P.W. Drug, few items at 88¢ store, groc. & went to see Mrs. M. She’s looking good but is so sad – thinks she still has her little house. Got to feeling weak & shaky while there, had to sit down. Got home about 4:30. Put away groc. Got supper, Did dishes, read paper, watched TV, etc. To bed at 12:45.

Thursday, December 24, 1981: Up at 8:40. Snowing! Washed & dressed. Washed & put up hair. Hung up Coke decor. Vacuumed rest of house. Got lunch. Finished getting ready for Christmas. Snowed off & on all day – about 3-4 inches. Looks like we’ll have a white Christmas for once. Got supper. Got ready to go to church program with Linda, Ted & kids. Enjoyed it. When I got home, I did dishes, read paper, (also, cleaned turkey, cut up celery & onions, & got bread ready for dressing) watched TV. Paula & Jim came about 10:30. Soon all went to bed. I finished getting stockings ready, wrapped Matt’s eagle, etc. To bed at 1:00.

Friday, December 25, 1981: WHITE CHRISTMAS Up at 8:00 – alternate sunny & cloudy, mostly sunny, really a nice day. Had coffee & rolls. Carla & Bill came. Linda soon called & kids walked over. Then Linda & Ted came so we opened gifts. They soon left to go to church. I got turkey in oven. Washed & dressed, made bed. Then I made cran. jelly, set Jello. Lindas came back, then Paula & Jim went out to Marilyns for a while. We cleared off dining room table & girls set table. Used the red cloth & my new dishes – really looked beautiful. Ate about 4-4:30. Afterwards cleared up, did dishes. Carla & Bill left. Said the roads were pretty clear when she called. Linda, Ted & kids left about 8:30 or so. Paula wanted to play pinochle so we played until about 10:00. Then they left. Watched news & I straightened up a little, Put away silver, dishes, etc. Cleaned up kitchen. Dad went to bed. I read paper a while. To bed at 1:00. Beautiful Christmas. Except Jays weren’t here.

Saturday, December 26, 1981: Up at 9:00. Snowing again! Dressed, made bed. Started straightening up house. Had brunch. Cleaned living room, vacuumed kitchen, hall & bath. Filled & put out bird feeders, gave nuts to squirrels. Got supper, did dishes. Read papers, watched TV. Looked at Sears Sale Cat. Got ready for bed. To bed about 1:00.

Sunday, December 27, 1981: Up at 9:00. Clear & sunny, cold. Sunny all day. Got breakfast, cleared table, worked X-word. Took shower, put up hair. Made bed, washed load of work clo., read paper & took little nap while I dried my hair. Dried clothes. Got supper, did dishes, read paper, watched TV, worked on new embroidery picture. Is going to be very pretty & shouldn’t take very long as not too much work on it. To bed at 1:00.

Monday, December 28, 1981: Up at 8:00. Mrs. J. called & woke me. Cloudy & cold. Washed & dressed, had breakfast, made bed, got ready to go to Boise. Dad let me drive. Had lunch with Paula & Carla. Started to snow over there. Went to Dr. Got home about 3:00. Talked to Linda, finished reading papers, got supper. Matt & Megan came over & stayed all night. I did dishes, read paper, watched TV. Got them to bed about 9:30, asleep by 10:00. I embroidered a while. To bed by 12:15.

Tuesday, December 29, 1981: Up at 8:15. Cloudy,  not too cold. Dressed, fixed breakfast. Started snowing. Kids played around. Kept snowing harder. Got lunch, kids went home & I drove over to see their tree. Really big & pretty. Was going to go downtown but snowed so hard, decided not to. Kids were going to show but came back, too. Made beds, cleared up dishes. Calendar towels came in A.M. so wrote names on them. Got supper, did dishes, entered ROAs & charges in book. Read paper, watched TV. To bed about 1:30.

Wednesday, December 30, 1981: Up at 9:00. Finally stopped snowing – really is piled up – got about 8 inches. Dressed, had breakfast, made bed. Talked to Linda. Got lunch. Shovelled snow – path to mailbox. Knocked snow off shrubs, fed birds. Cleaned & straightened dining room, small bath. Got supper, did dishes. Not feeling very well, bladder trouble. Made out checks & deposit, then wrote statements. To bed at 12:45. Forfot [sic] to make coffee.

Thursday, December 31, 1981: Up at 8:45. Cold last night 8° when I went to bed. Washed & dressed, washed & put up hair. Had breakfast, made bed. Vacuumed floors. Got lunch. Cooked macaroni, made pist. salad, jello salad. Made batch of choc. chip cookies. Talked to Paula & Carla. Paula & Jim going to stay all night. Guess Carla won’t come. Fixed supper, did dishes, sliced ham. Linda, Ted & kids came. I changed clothes & fixed face. Kids worked jig saw puzzle. I played cards with Meg, etc. About 11:30 set out lunch. Got up noisemakers, etc. Watched New Years on TV. After we ate kids went home, Paula & I cleared up, did dishes. Dad went to bed. I read paper, etc. To bed about 3:00.

Monday, December 1, 1980: MIKE’S BIRTHDAY 72 –   8 Up at 8:30. Cloudy. Sun came out for a while, then clouded over again. Washed & dressed. Had brunch. Got Dad’s lunch. Worked on bills all day & sorting papers. Got supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV, to bed at 12:15.

Tuesday, December 2, 1980: Up at 9:15. Cloudy & raining but thank goodness no snow. Washed, dressed, had brunch, made bed. Talked to Linda. Worked on Xmas orders. Got lunch. Sorted papers. Ran a temp of about 100.6 and didn’t feel good so laid down & slept for a while. Was a really gray day all day. Got supper. Read paper & did dishes, watched TV. To bed at 12:15.

Wednesday, December 3, 1980: Up at 8:00. Gray & cloudy, not too cold. Cold breaking up now so hope I feel better. Dressed, put away clothes in suitcase. Changed sheets on our bed. Called SR order in & sent Sunset House order. Had brunch. Cleaned in basement & washed load of rugs. Got out Xmas outdoor lights, etc. Got lunch for Dad. Watered part of flowers. Laid down for a while in afternoon as temp came up again. Still feel pretty miserable. Got supper, did dishes, watched TV, read paper. Made out checks. To bed about 12:30.

Thursday, December 4, 1980: Up at 8:30. Cloudy, not too cold. Paula called this A.M. Feeling some better but not going downtown – thought I’d better not go out yet. Washed & dressed, made bed. Had brunch. Linda came & got her check. Wrote letter to Mrs. M. & to Leona. Got Leona’s clock ready to mail. Found Xmas cards. Still haven’t caught my mouse. Got supper. Did dishes, read paper, watched TV. Folded Xmas cards. To bed at 12:30.

Friday, December 5, 1980: Up at 8:45. Cloudy, not very cold. Washed my hair. Dressed, had brunch. Made bed. Put monogram on Shaw’s calendar. Dried clothes in washer. Got Dad’s lunch.Talked to Linda. Odd jobs. Got supper. Did dishes, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:30. Dusted Sam & found 2 fleas (1 dead & 1 almost).

Saturday, December 6, 1980: Up at 8:45. Light skiff of snow. Snowed hard for a while – then cleared, sun came out & melted nearly all of it again. Dressed, made bed, got out more Xmas stuff & put up a few decorations. Had brunch. Keep trying to start clock but it still won’t go. Never did get any cleaning done. Put up hair & took shower. Talked to Linda, Jay got home from Atlanta O.K. Fixed supper. Did dishes, read papers, watched TV. To bed about 1:30.

Sunday, December 7, 1980: MATTIE’S BIRTHDAY  Pearl Harbor Day 39 yrs. ago. Up at 8:30. Kind of cold last night. Fixed breakfast. Worked X-word. Baked Matt a birthday cake. Made bed. Did dishes. Took out garbage. Wrapped Matt’s gift. Carla came. Washed load of clothes. Got supper. Cleared dishes. Iced cake. They came over for a while. Matt had quite a time blowing out his candles (re-lighting ones). Meg sick & vomiting – poor little thing. Had cake, Carla left & soon Linda & Ted. Ted growing a beard. Dad not feeling too good either. I did rest of dishes, dried clothes, cleaned off bed downstairs. To bed about 1:00.

Monday, December 8, 1980: Up at 8:45. Sunny, cold. Dressed, had brunch. Made bed. Put up other lamp in our room. Dad didn’t come for lunch. Talked to Linda. Had to go down & get Donny Jordan from school. He got sick & she wasn’t home. Addressed all Christmas cards. Wrote to Jean & Susan & have their cards ready to mail. Got supper, read paper, did dishes. Got shop deposit ready (huge one). To bed at 12:15.

Tuesday, December 9, 1980: Up at 8:15. Hazy, cold. Washed & dressed. Got ready to go downtown – finished deposits, got Shaw’s package ready, etc. Left about 11:30. Had a hamburger at Jacks.Got order at Sears, paid bills, got groceries. Home about 3:45. Put away groceries. Got supper. Did dishes, read paper, watched TV, put away rest of stuff. Dad not feeling very good. Put vaporizer in our room & let it run all night. Hope it helps his chest. To bed about 1:00.

Wednesday, December 10, 1980: Up at 8:40. Light haze, cold. Dressed, had brunch, talked to Paula. Made bed, cleaned out vaporizer. Washed load of colored clothes. Dried work clothes, put away. Worked in basement. Worked on greetings, wrote notes, etc. Got lunch.Got supper, did dishes, read paper, watched TV. Fixed vaporizer again & Dad still not feeling too well. To bed at 1:00.

Thursday, December 11, 1980: Up at 8:20. Hazy, cold. Supposed to warm up? Linda stopped for her check. I got dressed, had brunch. Made bed. Did dishes. Dad went to Dr. H. in Boise, had lunch with Paula. I washed load of clothes. Folded some & put away. Got ladder out & put up outdoor lights. Big job. Paula called. Coming for supper & kids coming too. Fixed supper, did dishes, Paula cut my hair. Dad still not feeling too good. Supposed to go to Dr. tomorrow. Read paper a little, watched TV. To bed about 1:00.

Friday, December 12, 1980: Up at 7:44. Looks foggy out, not so cold. Linda called & Matt sick. I’ll have to keep him while she’s gone to Nampa (new Bible Study Group) and with Meg’s class to decorate a tree downtown. Washed & dressed. Made bed. Wrote letter to Marie. Got lunch. Dad went to Dr. Mattie was real good and isn’t too sick. Linda came for him about 1:30. I cleaned living room, vacuumed kitchen, & hall & bath. Got supper, Dad didn’t eat much. Did dishes, read papers. Watched TV. Dusted Sam for last time! To bed about 1:15.

Saturday, December 13, 1980: Up at 8:50. Foggy, light snow during night. Just frost off trees. Dressed, made bed. Washed load of clothes. Watered flowers. Changed stands beside our bed & the one in pink bedroom. Cut it down & made a little smaller. Dried wall in corner & wiped off mold. Had brunch. Fixed Dad lunch. Worked on books. Off a little but soon found the trouble. Got supper, then finished them up. Did dishes, watched TV. To bed about 1:00. Wrote more letters.

Sunday, December 14, 1980: Up at 9:10. Foggy, no sun all day. Got breakfast. Washed & dried load of clothes. Cleaned in laundry room. Took shower. Washed & put up hair. Dried hair while I worked X-word. Carla not coming over because she has tests to study for. Made bed. Dried more clothes. Got supper. Did dishes. Read TV Guide. Wrote more letters. Watched TV. Monday, December 15, 1980: Up at 8:15. Phone woke me. Foggy again. Sun peeked out a little today. Dressed, washed load of clothes, dried clothes. Sewed on Meg’s jumper. Had brunch. Made bed. Talked to Linda & Paula. Dad didn’t come for lunch. Wrote letters – have about 6 more to go. Got supper. Put stand on & trimmed Xmas tree. Took me all evening. Did dishes, watched TV, read paper. Talked to Linda and Paula. Got lunch. Wrote letters again, then got ready to go downtown. Took stuff to bookkeeper, got Matt’s gift at SR, got groc. Got supper, put away groc., did dishes, watched TV, wrote letters – nearly done. To bed at 1:30.

Wednesday, December 17, 1980: Up at 8:30. Really foggy this morning. Dressed, made bed. Wrote letters. Washed load of clothes. Cleaned our bedroom & pink bedroom. Finished putting icicles on tree and vacuumed living room floor. Sewed on Meg’s jumper. Have it nearly done. Carried presents downstairs to wrap. Fixed lunch & supper. Did dishes. Started letter to Velda. Watched TV. Put up Jello molds in kitchen. To bed about 1:30.

Thursday, December 18, 1980: Up at 8:30. Foggy again. Washed & dressed. Dried coat liner. Put few curlers in hair. Made up deposits. Had brunch. Finished getting ready to go downtown. Linda drove. Ate lunch at Coffee Cup. I went back down to see Mrs. M. but she was asleep. Has pneumonia now, not very good. Got stuff at bookkeeper. When I got home, got supper. Matt & Megan came. Had to go to Scout meeting so left about 6:45. I put away groc., did dishes, wrote more letters. Watched TV, read paper. To bed about 1:20.

Friday, December 19, 1980: Up at 8:10. Really dark & foggy. Dressed, had brunch. Made bed. Sewed Meg’s costume. Wrapped Nancy’s gift. Finished last letter! Wrote & mailed checks for donations. Cleaned family room, cleaned new bath. Got lunch. Dusted in dining room. Sliced bologna & ham. Got supper, did dishes. Made 2 batches of choc. fudge and 1 of a pkged light fudge mix. Read paper. To bed at 1:00.

Did dishes. She left early – about 4:30. Finished Meg’s jumper. Sewed on my robe. Got ready to go to Nampa. Got there about 9:40. Train was 1 hr. & 12 min. late. Got kind of cold. Got home, had a little lunch. To bed about 1:30.

Monday, December 22, 1980: Mom’s birthday. Up at 8:25. Cloudy. Sun shone a little. Rained in evening. Mike & Cindy came down & woke me up. Got breakfast. Washed & dressed. Wrapped more presents. Matt & Megan came over. Kids had a great time. Got lunch. Did dishes. Got ready & went down for groc. Put away groc. Got supper. Did dishes. Paula came over in evening. Linda, Ted & kids didn’t come. Wednesday, December 24, 1980: Up at 8:30. Rained from about noon on. Got breakfast. Made beds, straightened up house. Got stuff ready for tomorrow. Made cranberry jelly. Got in turkey, etc. Got lunch, got supper. Paula & Jim came, then went down to Jim’s folks. Cleaned turkey, cut celery & onion for dressing. Fixed stockings. Got to bed about 1:00.

Thursday, December 25, 1980: CHRISTMAS! Up at 7:30. Cloudy, raining still. Dad & Mike up. Waited for Carla & Bill to come, then started opening presents. Got done about 8:30. Fixed breakfast. Made dressing & got turkey in oven. Made jello. ← (Washed & dressed). Did dishes. Set out lunch. Made pies. Took tiny nap. Finished up dinner. Ate about 5:00. Turkey very good. Cleared up & did dishes. Carla & Bill left, then later Linda, Ted & kids. Paula & Jim about 11:00. Got to bed about 1:00. Was a nice Christmas.

Friday, December 26, 1980: Up at 8:30. Foggy, not very cold. Fixed breakfast. Washed & dressed. Cleaned up kitchen & rest of dishes. Put away good dishes & silver. Got lunch. Made bed. Got supper. Did dishes. Worked on books. Matt & Megan over to play with Mike good part of day. To bed about 1:00. Matt & Megan stayed over & the 3 slept in sleeping bags in family room.

Called Paula – she’s not feeling too good. Did dishes. Worked on books. To bed about 12:00.

Sunday, December 28, 1980: Up about 8:30. Foggy again. Got breakfast. Cleared table. Took shower, washed & put up hair. Dried hair & worked X-word. Made bed. Carla came. Fixed steaks & Fr. fries for supper. Megan was here. Did dishes. Linda & Ted came for a while. Nancy & I wrote statements. To bed about 12:00.

Monday, December 29, 1980: Up at 8:45. Clear, sunny most of day. Mike went with Dad & Jay to work. We had breakfast. Dressed, made bed. Did dishes. (Emptied dishwasher). Vacuumed kitchen. Tuesday, December 30, 1980: Up at 8:30. Cloudy, some sun. Fixed breakfast. Washed & dressed. Straightened up house. Got lunch. Did dishes. Got ready & went downtown. Cindy’s dress didn’t come yet. Put away groceries. Got supper. Did dishes. Read papers, watched TV. To bed about 1:30.

Wednesday, December 31, 1980: NEW YEAR’S EVE  Up at 8:30. Foggy, not too cold. Had breakfast. Started making salads, etc. Got lunch. Did dishes. Got everything ready for N. Year’s Eve. Made chili for supper. Did dishes. Washed & got changed for evening. Matt was here for supper too. Got snax ready – vegs., crax, cheese & dip. Put out lunch at 11:00. Were finished eating by midnite. Kids went home – I did dishes.To bed about 2:30.

Saturday, December 1, 1984: MIKE’S BIRTHDAY – Up at 9:00, had breakfast. Took shower, washed & put up hair. Made bed, dried hair & read old papers, etc. Ted working on Nancy’s washer again today, surely hope it is fixed now. Had lunch, cut out Carla’s skirt. Washed & dried bathroom rugs, lid cover, etc. Got ready to go over to Nancys. Fixed the zipper on Cindy’s Snoopy. Took cake, gift and table & chairs over. Had salad, rice & sweet & sour meatballs. Then cake & ice cream. Mike really liked his watch – I’m so glad. Jim showed some slides (Jay was in them) and hooked up Nancy’s stereo. Got home little after 10:00. Took elastic out of toilet tank cover & watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Nice birthday for Mike. Linda, Ted & kids, Jim & Paula and Carla & Bill were at Nancys too.

Sunday, December 2, 1984: Up at 9:15 – didn’t go to sleep until about 2:00 last night. Got in papers, had breakfast. Read Tribune TV Guide, dressed. Made bed, cleaned bath. Vacuumed hall, kitchen; also dining room & sm. bath. Started sewing on C. skirt, worked big X-word. Pressed skirt & started to put zipper in when Carla came. Fixed supper – rolled flank steaks, baked potatoes, peas, zuchini, mixed salad. Raspberries for dessert. After we ate & visited a little Carla left. I did dishes, read papers, watched TV. Played a little solitaire. To bed at 11:30.

Monday, December 3, 1984: Woke at 7:00, went back to sleep until 8:30. Dressed, made bed. Had juice & coffee. Talked to Linda & Judy called. Nancy came over to do washing, her washer still runs over the drain pipe. I wrote letter to Mary, then started one to Susan. Went over to Nancys for Pizza tonight, took cake along. Home about 8:15, made a batch of marshmallow & peanut candy. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:00.

Tuesday, December 4, 1984: Up at 8:30, washed & dressed. Made bed, had breakfast. Called Linda, also Nancy. Started to get lunch ready when Carla came. Called & asked Nancy to come for lunch, too. Had crab louis & toast. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Wrote to Leona & got her birthday card ready to mail. Finished letter to Susan & got Xmas greetings ready for England. Mike & Cindy came from school. Nancy came for them about 5:45. I got in paper, fixed supper. Did dishes, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:00.

Wednesday, December 5, 1984: Up at 8:15. Dressed, made bed. Had juice & coffee. Wrapped pkg. for Denise & got it ready to mail. Got up Xmas decorations & lights. Put up those in living room, then put up outdoor lights. Quite a job and didn’t put up all of them either. Had supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:00.

Thursday, December 6, 1984: Up at 8:00, washed & dressed. Made bed, put up lights around mirror but they wouldn’t light. Had breakfast, Nancy called – not going downtown. Plumber coming this P.M. Linda called, also; has to take scouts to hospital this afternoon so went downtown alone. Left at noon. Went to Banks, Sears, P.O., MW., Ernst Fuel to pay bill. Then went to P.W. Drug, Bonanza, ate lunch at A&W. Got gas, then groc. at Albertsons & home. Put away groc., looked at mail. Fixed supper, did dishes. No paper tonight, darn! Made batch of candy. Looked at orders. To bed at 12:15.

Friday, December 7, 1984: Matt’s birthday. Got up at 8:00, Nancy came up for _____, talked to Linda. Dressed, had coffee & juice. Made bed, watered rest of flowers. Started working on bills & donations. Nancy came up for some stamps. Paid rest of bills, got musical Xmas greetings ready for kids. Wrapped Matt’s gift & got his card ready. Got ready to go out to dinner. Went with Nancy & kids & waited for the rest out at Jade Gardens. Had a very good dinner. Nancy, Mike, Cindy, Paula, Jim, Ted, Linda, Megan & Matt. Went back to Lindas for cake & ice cream. Got home about 11:00. To bed at 11:45.

Saturday, December 8, 1984: Woke at 7:00, napped until 8:30. Made bed, took shower. Dressed, had breakfast. Got ready to go to parade, left about 11:15. Shopped in P.W. Drug until time for parade, then watched from in front. Pretty nice parade, saw Megan & Linda. Got a Christmas tree afterwards for $10.00 – really pretty little tree. When we got home, Nancy helped me change outdoor lights & change bulbs. Had a sandwich & looked at mail. After Nancy & Cindy left I washed & put up hair, dried hair & addressed cards. Called Paula & Judy called me. Got supper, did dishes & ran dishwasher. Read paper & watched TV. Put tree in stand & fixed water for it, got down decorations. To bed at 11:30.

Sunday, December 9, 1984: Woke at 7:30, went back to sleep until 8:30. Read papers until 9:30. Got up, dressed. Had breakfast, got in papers. Wired branches on Xmas tree. Read I-P-TV Guide. Put meat on to cook. Made large batch of fudge – no nuts. Worked X-word while cooking, made bed. Got cloudier as day wore on. Nancy came over for a little while. Carla came about 3:00, took Matt & Mike out for their gifts. I finished up stew. They got back about 4:30, we ate. When Carla left it had started to sleet. She called & got home O.K. Helen sent over 2 poinsettias for Nancy & I. They are so pretty. I did dishes, cut up candy. Read papers, watched TV. To bed at 11:30.

Monday, December 10, 1984: Up at 8:15, dressed. Made bed, had O.J. Wrote to Marie, addressed more cards. Had coffee, worked on cards. Baked Snackin’ Cake, more cards, Nancy & Cindy came & later Mike. Finished decorating tree, had cake & cocoa. After they left I finished up cards, had supper. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:30.

Tuesday, December 11, 1984: Woke at 8:00, up at 9:00.Washed & dressed. Watered Xmas tree, talked to Linda. Had breakfast, worked on cards & letters. Nancy here a little, had lunch. Cards & letters again, wrapped Nancy’s folks’ gift. Nancy came & took pkg. to mail for me, Cindy stayed here. Mike came by & then he & Cindy went home. I had supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:10.

Wednesday, December 12, 1984: Woke at 7:30, up at 8:30. Dressed, made bed. Cindy called & had breakfast with me. I had juice & coffee. She went home about 10:15. I worked on cards & letters. Talked to Linda, washed load of white rayons, worked on Carla’s skirt, dried clothes. Had juice & V-8. Worked on cards & letters again. Hung up bell & [illegible abbreviation] above mantel. Fixed supper, Nancy & kids here a little bit. Did dishes, read paper. Matt over a while. Watched TV. To bed at 11:30. Wrapped a pkg.

Thursday, December 13, 1984: Up at 8:20, made bed. Washed & dressed. Had breakfast, dried bedspread. Got things ready to go downtown. Nancy came about 11:40, called Linda. Went downtown. Stopped at shop & put up decorations for Xmas. Went to Banks, Library, MW for orders. Pd. Meg’s violin rent at Dorsey Music. Took Nancy to the Saratoga for lunch. Was real good. Went to P.W. Drug, Nancy & Linda picked up Cindy at school, then got groc. Unloaded Nancy’s groc., then Lindas. Took wreaths & candle to cemetery. Nancy & kids came & helped me put away groc. I fixed supper, did dishes. Ran dishwasher, washed load of col. clothes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Friday, December 14, 1984: Up at 8:15, made bed. Had coffee, worked on letters. Talked to Linda, had juice. Cleaned living room, washed load of colored clothes. Vacuumed kitchen, talked to Nancy. Worked on letters again. Paid Home Ins. this A.M. Had some juice, cleaned my bedroom, vacuumed hall. Got supper, Carla called, also Judy. Did dishes, read paper. Watched TV. Wrapped pkg. To bed at 12:15.

Saturday, December 15, 1984: Up at 8:30, called Mary. Took shower. Ralph called me back. Decided to go down & look at cars. Called Linda, then Nancy. Swept snow off sidewalks & drive. Washed & put up hair. Made bed, had breakfast. Dried hair & wrote letters. Kids played in snow on driveway. Went downtown about 2:00. Started to snow again about that time. Have a Dodge Aries for $9199.00. Hate to spend that much for a car – don’t know what to do. Really snowing when we came home. Wrote more letters, then had supper. Did dishes, wrote more letters. Watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Sunday, December 16, 1984: Up at 8:00, turned up heat. Back to bed, got up at 8:30. Washed & dressed, made bed. Swept sidewalks & drive, got in papers. Read I-P TV Guide, talked to Roy about car. Carla called, decided not to come over today. Started to work on letters, had breakfast. Nancy & kids came over & got ornaments to decorate little tree at cemetery. I kept working on letters. Stopped about 4:30 & got changed & ready to go to dinner. Worked on letters again until Paula called about 6:00. I wrapped Judy’s present & went down. They were finished with her tree so then we left for dinner. Finally wound up at JB’s Big Boy – had a taco salad. When we got back to Judy’s Jim put up her lights around window, then we left. Home about 9:30. Finished letter, washed load of colored rayons. Watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Monday, December 17, 1984: Up at 8:00, turned up heat. Back to bed until 8:30. Dressed, made bed. Called Linda, had O.J. Called Mr. Hayes, said I’d take the car. Worked on letters, talked to Nancy. Dried part of clothes in washer. Worked on rest of letters, finished in P.M. Cindy came from school & Nancy soon came & got her. Dried more clothes, watered flowers in back of house. Took garbage out & Mike asked me to take them downtown. Waited till after 5:00 for bookkeeper but he didn’t call so we left. Went to Library to make some picture copies for Mike. Had trouble starting the car there but finally made it. Fixed supper when I got home. Washed load of col. rayons. Did dishes, made double batch of fudge w/nuts. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 18, 1984: Woke at 7:45, turned up heat. Went back to bed, up at 8:20. Washed & dressed, made bed. Had breakfast, Cindy came up for a little bit. Called about Ins., etc. Started to wrap gifts, worked all afternoon. Put away candy. Got supper, did dishes. Worked on gifts again. Cut up meat for chow mein. Folded & put away underwear. To bed at 11:50.

Wednesday, December 19, 1984: Got up at 7:45 & turned up heat. Back to bed & read paper, up at 9:00. Dressed, made bed. Had juice, finished up wrapping gifts. Put away stocking stuffers, wrapping paper, etc. Put away screen in back, raised up swing, shut gate. Took greetings & gifts [to] neighbors. Nancy says Cindy has chicken pox. Put up rest of lights & decorations in dining room, fam. room. Decorated wreath & hung by front door. Got supper, did dishes. Made candy. Read paper, watched TV. Called Paula & Judy called. To bed at 11:40.

Thursday, December 20, 1984: Woke at 4:30, read a while. Back so sleep about 7:00 till 8:00. Turned up heat, then washed & dressed. Got stuff ready to go downtown. Talked to Nancy, she’s not going because of Cindy. Linda & I left about 12:00. Went to shop & left Joe’s check, then to UFF. Deposited Nancy’s check & got my money out for car. Went out & had lunch at A&W, then Linda took me to get car. Took a while to fill out papers, etc., then they fixed trunk and had to adjust motor a little. Took Cindy’s picture to her teacher, then got license for car (49.20). Mailed Nancy’s pkgs. & got things at MW. Made deposit at Bank, paid Tel. bill at P.W. Drug. Got groc. for Nancy & I, then home. Car surely drives nice. Stopped at Nancy’s & dropped off her groc. Walked home and took stuff out of old car, drove it down to Nancys. Then brought new car home & put it in garage. Surely a lot more room. Put away groc., got supper. Did dishes, reconciled bank statement. Worked on Carla’s skirt, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Friday, December 21, 1984: Woke at 7:30, turned up heat. Back to bed until 8:30 but didn’t go back to sleep. Dressed, made bed. Had coffee & juice. Called about mistake on car registration. Called Ins. Co. with Reg. no. Started cleaning family room & moved furniture a little. Put license plate on car, jack, etc. in trunk. Nancy came over & swept off my walks & path on drive. Snowed again last night. Took Jay’s clothes home from closet. Had coffee & later V-8. Wrapped Matt & Mike’s presents. Matt & Megan came over & later on Mike came. Said Linda was sick – I talked to her – said it is some kind of flu I guess. Nancy called & wanted me to help her open CC’s paw, had a little blister. They asked me to stay for supper. Also had me open my Xmas gift – a woolen pad for my bed. I hope it helps my back & hips! After I came home read paper, cleaned rest of fam. room. Made candy, watched TV. Took shower – put pad on my bed. To bed at 2:00.

Saturday, December 22, 1984: Woke at 8:00. Believe the wool pad helps. Turned up heat, went back to bed. Up about 9:00. Washed, washed & put up hair. Dressed, made bed. Washed bedspread, had breakfast. Dried spread, put back on bed. Cleaned sm. bath, Mike & Cindy came over. Nancy came for a while, then they left. I dried my hair, cleaned W. part of dining room, spare bedroom, hall, vacuumed my room, lge. bath, living rm. Had pnut. butter sandwich for lunch. Mike & Megan were over for a while. Ralph called today, also Judy this eve. Got supper, did dishes. Made last batch of fudge. Vacuumed kitchen, cleaned off work tables. Watched TV. To bed at 1:00. 

Sunday, December 23, 1984: Woke at 8:35, got up, washed & dressed. Had juice & toast, made bed. Got ready & went to church, took Mike and Nancy. The program was very nice. Had coffee & cookies after church. Nancy & Mike & Cindy went out for lunch w/Linda & Ted, I came home & finished cleaning dining room & back porch. Read I-P-T. TV Guide. Carla came so I put away candy, then fixed dinner. Mike & Cindy came so I just fixed more stk. & potatoes & asked them all to come, too. Cleared up, emptied dishwasher, Nancy rinsed dishes. (Carla left soon after we ate). Left for Boise shortly after 6:15. Plane was a little late. Carla & Paula were there. So good to see Paul. Got his luggage, then came home. Got here about 9:30. Visited a while, looked at paper. Fixed sandwiches for kids, then they went home. Paul & I went to bed after the news. To bed at 11:00.

Monday, December 24, 1984: Woke at 6:00, back to sleep until 8:00. Had breakfast, dressed. Made bed, Mike came over & soon Cindy & Nancy. They decided to go to Boise to try & get Mike’s gift. Cindy stayed with me. I cooked cranberry sauce, Linda picked up few groceries for me. She pressed her choir robe & then I pressed Carla’s skirt. Wrapped her gift, also Ted’s for Linda. Put on meat for supper, asked kids to stay, too. Ralph called. Paula & Jim came & brought gifts, then went down to his mom’s. I cleaned turkey, after supper we cleared up & I rinsed dishes. Ran dishwasher, Carla called, looked for pen for her to give to Paul. Cleaned & cut up celery & onion. Nancy & kids went home about 8:30, Paul to bed about 10:00. I emptied dishwasher, Linda, Ted & kids came a little while. Reloaded dishwasher, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Tuesday, December 25, 1984: Woke about 6:30, went back to sleep until about 8:00. Paul was up. He had coffee, then took shower & shaved. I had breakfast, Paula & Jim came. Nancy & kids came and then Carla & Bill. Ted, Linda & kids soon after & we opened presents. Everyone seemed pleased with gifts. I got turkey in oven about 10:30, then washed & dressed. Carla tried on skirt, then helped me make bed. I fixed dips & set out veg. & crax. Also cheeses, lunch meat & bread. Rested a little, then fixed potatoes, green beans, etc. Paula & Meg set table. Ate about 5:00. Afterwards, cleared table, rinsed dishes & ran 1 load. Carla & Bill left & Linda, Nancy & Cindy went over to cemetery. All went home by about 9:30. Paul & I watched TV & I finished clean up kitchen. He went to bed & I finished dishes emptied dishwasher. To bed at 12:30.    

Wednesday, December 26, 1984: Woke early but went back to sleep until 8:35. Had breakfast, dressed. Made bed, straightened up house. Nancy came over & vacuumed. Fixed lunch. Nancy, Mike & Paul went down to get her some new doors & locks. Cindy stayed with me. After a while they came back with a new Dodge ___, we went for a ride. Took Linda, Matt & Meg for a ride then came over here. Linda & Meg stayed here until about 5:30. Started supper & we ate about 6:30. Cleared up & did dishes. Mike & Cindy staying all night. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:00.

Thursday, December 27, 1984: Up at 1:30, again at 6:00. Worked X-word & dozed off, phone woke me at 7:20. Back to sleep till 8:45. Got breakfast, Nancy came. All went over to her house & I made beds. Washed & dressed, got ready to go downtown. Paula called, wants us to come for supper tonight. Talked to Linda, too. Went downtown about 12:30. To Bank, paid oil bill, took pjs. into MW. Went to P.W., then to Albertsons & home. Put away groc., Mike helped me carry them in. Nancy got her van today so we took it to Boise. Held us all. Paula had a good supper, afterwards we played Trivial Pursuit, it’s lots of fun. Got home about 10:30. Read paper, to bed at 12:30.

Friday, December 28, 1984: Up at 6:20, back to sleep until 8:00. Paul & Mike all ready to go skiing, left soon afterwards. I watered flowers, fixed towel bar in pink bath. Talked to Linda, made beds. Vacuumed living room, Real Silk man came. Ordered some sox for Megan, had lunch. Fixed light above table, put a fluorescent light in it. Vacuumed bath, hall, kitchen. Fixed supper, did dishes. Nancy, Paul & kids got home about 7:15. They played cards, etc., went home about 9:00. Paul & I talked a little, looked at pix. Then he went to bed. I read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:20.

Saturday, December 29, 1984: Up at 8:35, Mike came up & he and Paul went back to their place to fix door. I had breakfast, took shower. Washed & put up hair. Made beds, dried hair. Napped a little & read paper. Talked to Linda & worked on hooked rug. Have it about ⅔ done now. Looked at mail, started getting supper. Had Nancy & kids here again. Mike had headache & we discovered he is getting chicken pox – poor kid. Didn’t seem to be feeling too bad tho’. They played cards while I did dishes & put away food. Nancy & kids went home about 9:00, discovered it had started snowing. Paul & I talked a while, then he went to bed. I did a little sewing on Carla’s skirt, then to bed, too. 12:30.

Sunday, December 30, 1984: Up at 8:35, fixed breakfast. Paul went down to Nancy’s to work. I emptied dishwasher, rinsed dishes. Worked X-word, washed & dressed. Got in other paper, read TV Guide. Got in meat for supper, talked to Nancy. Made beds, Carla called. Called Linda & asked them for supper, too. Washed potatoes, made tossed salad. Carla came & soon Nancy, Paul & kids came over. Finished up supper, Linda & Ted came. Ate buffet style & was very good. Had Carla try on clothes, guess she likes them. Cleared up table, rinsed load of dishes & ran dishwasher. Cleaned radishes & put away rest of food. Washed & rinsed more dishes. Kids all went home pretty early. Read paper & watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Monday, December 31, 1984: Up at 8:30, fixed breakfast. Ate mine, too; Paul went down to Nancys. Dressed, made beds. Vacuumed living room, kitchen, hall, bath, dining room & sm. bath. Cooked mac. for salad in morning. Made cran. salad, finished shrimp salad, sliced ham. Fried hamburgers & had frozen waffles with them for supper. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Got washed & changed for evening. Paula & Jim came, Nancy & I set out lunch. (cheeses, crax, dips). Then we worked on jig saw puzzles & played Trivia. Linda & Ted came about 9:00 and Carla & Bill soon after. I set out lunch about 11:45 and Cindy was really wound up. Ate after midnight, then worked on puzzles some more. Paula & Jim staying all nite. Cleared up table, to bed at 4:00.

Thursday, December 1, 1983: Mike — 83-11 Up at 8:30. Not snowing any more. Read a while (papers). Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, went out & shovelled off driveway. Brought up Xmas decorations, put up a few. Wrote letter to Susan. Went to Circle K for milk, filled bird feeders. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned off old refrigerator & metal cabinet. Put tuner & amplifier on top of frig. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Didn’t go downtown today because of snow.

Friday, December 2, 1983: Up at 8:15. Cloudy, started to snow later on & snowed until about 2:30. Decided I should go downtown so left about 11:00. Made Linda’s deposit for her & mine, too. Took Ins. Form to bookkeeper, got order at S. R., paid power & P.W. Drug bills, mailed Susie’s greeting, went to Kings, then Albertsons. Stopped at shop & told Ted to order garbage disposal for me. Home at 2:30. Put away groc., put up more decorations. Took short nap. Got supper, did dishes. Cleaned off new refrig., soaked feet, watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Didn’t sleep very well last night.

Saturday, December 3, 1983: Up at 8:45. Dressed, made bed, did misc. jobs. Talked to Linda & Paula. Had breakfast. Put up a few more decorations. Ordered Cat Chow calendars. Dusted & cleaned living room. Vacuumed kitchen. Started supper. Linda & Meg came over to practice. After they left, I ate supper. Did dishes, read last night’s paper, soaked feet, watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Carla called today, too. Don’t think she’ll be over tomorrow. Snowed all day today.

Sunday, December 4, 1983: Woke at 8:45. Read old papers, etc., until about 10:00 or 11:00. Did misc. jobs. Had breakfast. Took shower & dressed. Made bed, swept path out to mail box & got in papers. Worked X-word & read cartoons. Watered part of flowers. Got supper, Jay called. Talked to Cindy. Did dishes, read papers, watched TV. No snow today but getting cold tonight. 14° above. To bed at 12:45.

Pd. more bills. Meg came to practice piano. I watered some flowers. After Meg left I went out & filled bird feeders, took out garbage pails & got mail. Later got in paper. Got supper, did dishes. Ran dishwasher, soaked feet. Read paper & watched TV. To bed at 12:45. Snowed a while again today. Not so cold tonight – little below 30°.

Tuesday, December 6, 1983: Woke at 8:15, up at 9:00. Snowing again! Washed & dressed. Made bed. Had breakfast, talked to Linda. Took cards to mailbox, brought back garbage pails. Wrote letter to Leona. Had lunch, wrote to Phyllis & Roy. Meg came to practice. Linda came & then Ted to take Meg to lesson. After they left, I shovelled a path to the mailbox. Got in paper. Had supper, did dishes. Mary called. Linda brought Xmas cards today so I started addressing cards. Watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Wednesday, December 7, 1983: Woke at 8:15, up at 9:00. Cloudy, not very cold. Rained some today. Dressed, made bed. Had breakfast, talked to Linda. Decided to fix supper for Matt’s birthday. Wrapped his present. Checked outdoor lights, put them out on bushes. Hope they don’t get stolen again but am tired of putting them up on the house. Had lunch, baked Matt’s cake. Wrote letter to Marie, set table. Iced cake, put meat on to cook. Peeled potatoes & fixed rest of supper. Meg came to practice about 5:30, rest about 6:15. Matt liked his presents–Seahawks sweater, Air Jammer auto rammer. Did dishes, soaked feet, watched TV. Linda did checks, worked on books, pd. bills, etc. Home little after 10:30. To bed at 12:55. 

Thursday, December 8, 1983: Woke at 8:15, up at 9:00. Washed & dressed, got ready to go to town. Had breakfast, left about 11:45. Went to Banks, ate lunch at A & W. Got gas, stopped at Bookkeeper. P. W. Drug, Western Auto & Kings. Linda’s present didn’t come so had to order something from Sears – hope it comes! Stopped at shop & got Matt. He got his contacts today. Took them home, then went home & put away groceries. Read mail. Linda called to see if I wanted to go to supper with them but decided to stay home. Had supper, did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:00. Matt having a little trouble with his contacts so Linda has to take him in the morning. Meg coming here.

Friday, December 9, 1983: Up at 7:45. Meg came about 7:50. Practiced piano until about 8:15, then went out to catch the bus. I dressed, started working on Xmas greetings. Had breakfast, paid taxes, mailed letters. Worked on greetings some more. Made hamburger & macaroni Casserole. Had lunch. More greetings & letters. Took casserole over to Jan’s, got mail. Fixed supper, did dishes. Made avocado dip, also batch of fudge. Soaked feet, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:30.

Saturday, December 10, 1983: Up at 8:30. Had sunshine for a while, later on clouded over & had some rain again. Took shower. Paula called, she & Jim coming over tonight to help Judy & me decorate trees. Had breakfast. Washed & put up hair. Dried hair & wrote letters, got more cards ready. Made bed, had lunch. Worked on cards again, got in mail. Linda & kids were here a little. About 5:00 got ready to go & eat. Paula & Jim came about 5:45. Went down & picked up Judy, went to Canton Cafe & had Chinese food. Real good. When we got home went over to Lindas a little & got my tree. Jim & his mom went down to her place & Paula & I decorated the tree – really looks pretty. When Jim got home he watched TV, Paula & I looked at their slides. They left about 11:30. I watched Vegas, then to bed at 11:30. Call Dr. about heel.

Sunday, December 11, 1983: Woke at 6:30 – remembered frig. had trouble so got up & checked it – not cooling. Couldn’t go back to sleep so got up. Called Linda about Megan but guess she felt O.K. so went to Sunday School. I had breakfast, made bed. Baked cake, rinsed dishes. Vacuumed living room, kitchen, bath and hall. Washed & dressed right after breakfast & straightened up bath, made coffee, fixed my face. Carla came. Paul & Ruth came about 2:30. Brought Dad’s cue stick & really got to me. Had such a nice visit with them. Carla went to the Mall & forgot her billfold so had to come back. They left so I went back out with Carla. Got a few things. When we got home fixed supper. Linda, Ted & kids came. Carla left & Ted & I bypassed the defrost control. Think it is cooling now. Did dishes, watched TV. Wrapped a few presents. To bed at 12:30.

Monday, December 12, 1983: Up at 9:15. Felt so good to sleep in once. Bright sun most of day but clouded over & rained & snowed in evening. Dressed, had breakfast. Talked to Linda, got ready to go downtown. Left about noon. Went to Bonanza and Coast to Coast. When I got home I fixed wreath & took it to cemetery. Wrote more letters. Meg came to practice, I took garbage out to front. Got supper, did dishes. Made batch of fudge w/o nuts, soaked my feet. Read papers, watched TV. To bed at 1:20. Fridge cooling now but only down to about 20° in freezer & 50° in fridge, don’t know what is wrong with it.

Tuesday, December 13, 1983: Up at 8:30. Raining, not very cold. Washed & dressed. Made bed, set up light timer. Had breakfast, paid some bills. Talked to Linda, mailed cards & letters. Cleaned up front yard, swept drive. Addressed rest of greetings, wrote letters. Meg came to practice piano. I finished cook soup, ate supper. Did dishes, wrote more letters. Read paper, watched TV. Wrapped several more presents. To bed at 12:15.

Wednesday, December 14, 1983: Woke at 6:30. Raining, rained all day. Got up & turned up heat, water alarm beeping so took battery out of it. Went back to bed & read papers. Tel. rang so got up to answer it, was Paula. Dressed, had breakfast. Washed load of good colored rayons. Paid Home Ins, & VISA bill. Mailed cards & letters. Talked to Linda.Wrote more letters. Dried clothes. Washed another load. Had lunch. Got Shaw’s pkg. ready to mail. More letters. Got supper, did dishes. Linda came to do checks, etc. Went to PTO Exec. Meeting. I wrote letters, dried more clothes. Linda came back & we finished up work to take to bookkeeper. Wrote check for F. T. D. Made up my deposit, list. Watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Thursday, December 15, 1983: Up at 8:15. Washed & dressed. Had breakfast, dried clothes. Got ready to go downtown. Made bed, wrapped some presents. Left about 11:30, met Linda at shop. Took her car, got gas. Went to banks, mailed pkgs. Went to Red Steer for lunch To 88c store for wreath. Dropped off shop mater. at Bookkeeper. Picked up order at Sears (L. blouse). Got my car & went to Albertsons for groc., then home. Took wreath to Lee’s grave at cemetery. When I got home, put away groc. Wrote more letters. Went out to supper at McDonalds w/kids. When I got home, read paper, soaked feet. Wrote letters, watched TV. To bed at 12:00.

Friday, December 16, 1983: Up at 8:30. Alt. sunny & cloudy. Wrote letters, had breakfast. Wrote more letters & washed load of white clothes Folded underwear & put away. Wrapped rest of Xmas gifts. Cleaned everything out of front bedroom, cleaned it. Vacuumed part of living room & put down gifts. Megan came over to practice & then Linda came to get her. Got my supper, did dishes. Soaked feet, wrote letters & watched TV. All done w/cards, except Ann & Dr. Haensli. To bed at 12:30. Had a beautiful card from Bill Foster. Called Jays – 11:15.

Saturday, December 17, 1983: Up at 8:00. Vacuumed living room, Took shower, washed & put up hair. Had breakfast, made bed. Vacuumed pink bedroom, bath & hall. “ [vacuumed] kitchen, put up rest of decorations in fam. rm., cleaned fam. rm. Cleaned sm. bath, dining room. Put away stuff in dining room. Had supper. Cleared table. Got ready to go to Boise. Fixed names on calendar towels. Linda called so I took car & picked them up then we went to Paula’s. Called the depot about 10:15 & said train was a little late. Got in about 10:50. Came right on home after we got Nancy’s luggage. To bed about 12:30. Called Paula – 7:30. Nancy called Jay – 12:00?

Sunday, December 18, 1983: Up at 8:00. Sam woke us, Cindy slept with me. Had breakfast, went out & got things in for dinner. Washed & dressed, made bed. Put meat on for supper, baked brownies. Made batch of fudge. Matt & Megan came over, kids played in & out. Started snowing about 10:00. Carla & Bill came & later Linda. Fixed rest of supper and we ate about 5:00. Cleared up & did dishes. Carla & Bill soon left. Linda, Ted & kids about 8:30. I cleaned up kitchen some more; soaked feet, watched TV. To bed at 12:40. Mike sleeping w/me tonight.

Monday, December 19, 1983: Up at 9:00. Went down & wrote letters to Dr. H. and Ann Hays, mailed greetings. Had breakfast, made bed. Dressed, snowing again. Nancy & kids walked over to Circle K & got milk. I wrapped Jay & Nan & Nancy’s [?] gifts. Fixed soup for Cindy. Watered all flowers, worked on bank statements, forms to be sent in, etc. Got ready to go to Meg’s recital. Fixed potatoes & put ham in to cook before we left. Recital was from 6 to 6:45. Meg did fine. When we got home, I fixed supper, did dishes. Jay called. I made more fudge. Worked on emb. pix, got one in frame. Watched TV. To bed at 1:00. Getting really cold.

Tuesday, December 20, 1983: Up at 9:00. Washed & dressed. Had breakfast. Made bed, sent in w/holding form. Fixed candy boxes for Judy & Montgomerys and wrapped them. Got in garbage pail. Put away stuff on back porch. Got lunch. Fed squirrels and filled bird feeders. Megan & Matt came over; stayed until 6:00. I fixed supper, did dishes. Soaked feet, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:30. Nancy trying to get Jay to come down on train. Down to 8° last night.

Wednesday, December 21, 1983: Up at 9:30. Had breakfast, dressed. Washed load of dark colored clothes, swept steps. Cleaned off bed, vacuumed downstairs. Worked on certs. from UFFS & L & Home Fed. S & L. Had lunch, dried clothes. Made bed, looked for vaporizer. Mike went skating w/Linda & kids. I got supper, played football game with Cindy. Put up decor. in dining room, lights around mirror in fam. rm. After supper, did dishes, worked on picture. Wrote cards & letters to Cherie & Paul. Nancy has reservations now for Jay for Fri. if he wants them. Washed bedspread & curtains. Dried more clothes. Watched TV. To bed at 1:45. Almost to 0°.

Thursday, December 22, 1983: Up at 8:30. Washed & dressed, had breakfast. Got things ready to go downtown. Left about 11:30.  Stopped at shop, Joe said the car had been checked for antifreeze, etc. Went to Albertsons for groc., then met Linda at Red Steer for lunch. Went out to Mall & Cindy had picture taken with Santa Claus. Was so cute. Shopped at Ernsts, to K-Mart, then back to Caldwell. Stopped at Travel Ser., then to Sears. To Pennywise, then took Judy’s gift down. Got cat food, gas, then to Supersave & home. Got supper, Matt & Megan came so they stayed & ate with us. L & T came back, went home about 9:30. I did dishes, soaked feet. Made candy, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 12:30. Below 0° tonight.

Friday, December 23, 1983: Up at 8:15. Really cold, about -12°. Turned on heat & furnace wouldn’t run. Had to put heat tape on pipe & in about an hour it started. Sure was glad. Dressed, had breakfast. Gave Cindy a perm. and it turned out real cute. She was so good. Had lunch. Cut & put away candy. Worked at misc. jobs. Jay got here about 3:45. Went down to shop to take Jay’s car down. When we got home, got supper. Did dishes, made candy w/nuts. Defrosted refrig., don’t know if it will help or not. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45.

Saturday, December 24, 1983: Up at 8:45. Snowing! Not quite so cold. Fixed breakfast, made bed. Took shower, washed & put up hair. Did dishes, emptied dishwasher. Made cranberry sauce, Nancy made jello. Straightened up house, Nancy vacuumed. Fed squirrels & birds, had to fix bird feeders. Got supper, did dishes. Broke bread & cut up celery & onions. Cleaned turkeys. Filled Xmas stockings. Watched TV. To bed at 12:30. Stopped snowing.

Sunday, December 25, 1983: Up at 7:45. Mike woke us. Made coffee & called Paula & Jim. Kids finally started opening presents & then Paula & Jim came. Carla called & they soon came & then Linda, Ted & kids. After we opened presents, got breakfast. Then I got turkey ready & put in oven. Did dishes & ran dishwasher, then Ted put in new garbage disposal. Drain still leaks but just needs new gasket. At least could use sink. Put my new curio cabinet together but have to redo it: door upside down. Started snowing again. Finished up dinner & ate about 5:30. All very good. Worked X-word. Carla & Bill left early.We cleared up & did dishes, then Linda, Ted & kids left. About 9:30 Paula & Jim left. Emptied dishwasher & put away dishes. Put in rest of dirty ones. Read paper, soaked my feet, watched TV. To bed at 12:40. What weather!

Monday, December 26, 1983: Up at 8:30. Little more snow during night. Not so cold. Fixed breakfast, rinsed dishes. Made bed, hung up clothes. Took Xmas paper down & put away. Helped Nancy wash some clothes. Got lunch, did dishes, ran dishwasher. Put away more dishes & silver. Changed the door on my curio cabinet, put on top of china cab. & put in bells, etc. Watered part of flowers. Went out & fed squirrels & filled bird feeders. Shovelled snow off most of drive while Nancy went to store & got milk & bread. She helped me shovel drive. I got supper, did dishes. Cleaned up turkey, etc. Watered rest of flowers. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45. Took garbage out.

Tuesday, December 27, 1983: Up at 8:45. Snowing again! Fixed breakfast. Did dishes, ran dishwasher. Decided to take phones in as Jay wanted to go to Ernsts for oil. Got the ones I wanted & then Jay took them on home. I stopped at Super Save for groc. Jay had phone up downstairs when I got home & working. We got ready & went to Boise. Roads not too bad. Got Nancy’s room [?]. Went to Paula’s. Took Matt & Meg with us too, but Linda & Ted didn’t come. Carla & Bill did & Paula had a delicious supper. Snowed hard off & on but quit about 4:00 & cleared off. We cleared up table & dishes and then came home (here by 9:00). Paula came with us, also Buffy. Jay & Paula worked on doll house. Shingling it now. I read paper, watched TV. To bed at 1:00.

Wednesday, December 28, 1983: Up at 8:15. Fixed breakfast. Washed & dressed, made bed. Called AT&T. Got nos. off back of phone & called in to AT&T. Will have Touch Tone hooked up by Friday. Have to use downstairs phone to call out until then. Paula & Jay working on doll house roof (shingles). Got lunch, did dishes. Ran dishwasher. Took bows downstairs. Hung up clothes. Made up Paula’s bed. Got in meat for supper. Made salad, jello for dessert. Put on meat to cook, cut carrots, celery & onion for swiss steak. Supper ready about 6:30. Jim came earlier & he & Jay took Jay’s car to shop. Matt here & staying all night. Did dishes, soaked feet. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45. Colder again.

Thursday, December 28, 1983: Up at 8:30. Snowed some during night. Also most of day. Fixed breakfast. Got ready to go downtown. Picked up Linda, got Megan, took Jay to shop. Went to Bank, Cindy crying with earache so took her to Dr. & got right in. Went to P. W. Drug & got her med., then to Pizza Hut but Nancy decided to take her home, so we drove them up, then back to P. Hut. From there to Safeway, Hirschs, Summers Sta., then to Abertsons. To Kings, then home. Took Linda home, Jay back to shop. Then home & put away groc. Got supper, (spaghetti) did dishes. Read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:45. (filled bird feeds, nuts to squirrels) Didn’t go to Carla’s because of snow & Cindy’s earache. Tried phone this A.M. & it was hooked up.

Friday, December 30, 1983: Up at 9:20. Woke at 4:00 & was awake until 6:00. Feel miserable. Got breakfast, dressed. Started straightening up living room, vacuumed. Put corks in holes by tel., put spackling on. Swept off front steps. Everything has ½” coating of ice. Jay & Nancy went downtown, Cindy stayed with me. Got lunch. Vacuumed kitchen, hall, bath, dining room. Got supper, did dishes. Soaked feet, read paper, watched TV. To bed at 11:00.

Saturday, December 31, 1983: Woke at 3:00. Read paper till 4:30, woke & got up at 8:45. Feel pretty rotten. Got breakfast, did dishes. Washed & dressed, made bed. Carla & Bill came, didn’t do too much all day just felt too bad. Made soup for lunch. Jay, Nancy & kids went down to Ralph’s a while. Cooked ham & beans for supper. Sent some home w/Carla & Bill. Paula & Jim came a while. They had some ham & beans, too. Left around 10:00. Paula did dishes for me. I set out cheese, crax, etc. Sliced ham & heated it. Sat around & didn’t do much. Finally worked on jigsaw a little. Had champagne. Cindy & Megan really excited about New Years. Everybody went home soon after 12:00. About 1:30 when I got to bed. Train about 2 hrs. late now.
